St. Ann's Home & School, in Methuen, MA, is a leader in special education and residential programming, offering private day programs, child and adolescent residential services, along with a broad range of outpatient services.
We are seeking a physical education teacher assistant for our education program. The physical education teacher assistant should possess a B.A. or B.S. preferably in a related field.
The physical education teacher assistant is responsible for assisting the physical education teacher with classroom preparation, teaching, behavioral management, and evaluation of physical education classes made up of 11-12 emotionally handicapped students.
The physical education teacher assistant must be able to prepare the gym and field for various physical activities. This includes measuring out courses for distance running, etc. The physical education teacher assistant is directly responsible to the physical education teacher.
The physical education teacher assistant should be physically fit and active with the ability to demonstrate physical sports related skills such as running, jumping, hopping, bending, twisting, pushing and pulling. The physical education teacher assistant should also be able to move equipment weighing 50 pounds and be able to physically restrain youth in an emergency to ensure everyone's safety is maintained. Staff are trained in current best practice techniques to safely respond to occasional aggressive, self-injurious or unsafe behaviors.
