Job Title: Physical Education Teacher Aide Reports to: Campus Principal and Assigned PE Teacher(s) Department/School: Raul Yzaguirre Schools for Success (RYSS) Exemption Status/Test: Nonexempt Date Revised: 7/2/2025 Primary Purpose:
Support the physical, social, and academic development of RYSS students by assisting in the delivery of physical education instruction under the direct supervision of a certified PE teacher. Help facilitate engaging, safe, and inclusive physical activities that promote student wellness and align with RYSS's commitment to educational equity and excellence. Qualifications:
Education/Certification: Must meet one of the following: Passed a formal academic assessment Hold an associate's degree Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education
Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to assist in physical education activities and basic fitness instruction Strong interpersonal skills and enthusiasm for working with children Effective communication skills in English (Spanish proficiency is a plus) Knowledge of safety procedures and student supervision during physical activities Experience: Prior experience working with children in an educational, recreational, or athletic setting preferred Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Support Assist in supervising and engaging students in physical education activities under teacher direction. Help set up and organize equipment and materials for PE lessons. Support the monitoring and assessment of student participation and progress. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized gym or outdoor activity space. Assist with inventory and care of PE equipment and supplies. Support substitute teachers with activity setup and student supervision. Student Management 7. Supervise students during PE classes, recess, transitions, and other assigned times. Promote positive behavior and teamwork among students. Communicate student needs or concerns to the PE teacher or campus leadership. Professional Responsibilities 10. Participate in RYSS professional development and training opportunities. Attend faculty meetings, school events, and community engagement activities as assigned. Follow all RYSS safety protocols and emergency procedures. Working Conditions:
Tools/Equipment Used: Standard PE and instructional equipment, including balls, cones, mats, and computers.
Physical Demands: Frequent standing, walking, running, bending, and lifting (up to 25 lbs) Occasional kneeling, squatting, and stooping Environment: Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions Exposure to noise, physical activity, and frequent interruptions Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress Adapt to changing student needs and activity dynamics
