Kendal at Oberlin's Early Learning Center is currently seeking a creative and enthusiastic full-time Assistant Teacher. This full-time schedule could be 8-hour shifts Monday - Friday, or 10-hour shifts four days a week. Our program is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and offers a one-of-a-kind intergenerational experience, connecting children with our campus-residing Grandfriends. The Assistant Teacher will support classroom activities and routines while helping to create a warm, developmentally appropriate learning environment. The teacher will assist in implementing lesson plans, observe children's development, and help maintain strong, respectful partnerships with families through daily communication and engagement. Further responsibilities may include but are not limited to: Planning and adapting a creative curriculum based on what most preschoolers should know and be able to do. Assess children's development and learning through collecting samples of children's drawings and writings and adding to the children's portfolios. Paying attention to and supporting children's interests, skills and knowledge. Learn and support all KELC curricula such as Conscious Discipline by setting clear limits for children's behavior and explain reasons. Qualifications and Experience: Minimum of three years' experience working with children 2-5 years old. Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or GED with a current CDA (Child Development Associate) credential. Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field. Must possess or obtain within first 90 days of hire: First Aid, CPR, Communicable Disease and Child Abuse Recognition certifications. Familiarity or training in Creative Curriculum and Conscious Discipline is a plus. A love for working with young children and helping them grow socially, emotionally, and academically. Must be able to take children outside in cold weather. Must be able to lift children, if needed, weighing 30-50 pounds.
