Abrons Arts Center is seeking a ballet teacher to join the faculty. The position involves teaching beginner's ballet classes on Wednesdays, from 4 - 5 pm for 5 - 8-year-olds and 5 - 6pm for 9-12-year-olds. Classes will culminate in an end of semester performance at Abrons Arts Center.

The ideal candidate is committed to Abrons Arts Center's values of accessibility, equity, and inclusion. They will be a facilitator with a strong ability to teach diverse learners of all ages and backgrounds. The teacher should be creative, confident, and highly skilled at designing dance curriculum, classroom management, and committed to uplifting young people through the arts.

The teacher should be motivated to provide exceptional arts projects to the Abrons Arts Center students, highly collaborative, and enthusiastic about contemporary arts practices and arts education innovation. They should also be committed to meeting the program's administrative requests, including lesson plans, evaluations, and time sheets. Additionally, the teacher should be excited to continue growing their artistic practice in tandem with teaching.

Qualifications include 3-5 years of teaching artist experience, 10+ years of technical training in ballet, 5+ years of professional dance experience, choreography experience, and strong classroom management skills. Proficiency in social-emotional learning methods, robust awareness of and passion for diverse contemporary dance, conflict mediation and de-escalation skills, enthusiasm for working with young people, and social adaptability to support a range of learning styles are also essential.

The responsibilities include cultivating a classroom environment that is consent-based and affirming to learners of all genders, identities, body types, and technical skill levels, connecting with students to build positive relationships and sense of community and belonging, and creating dynamic, exciting, and fun ballet dance performances for the end of the semester showcase.

The job requires being New York City based and present on-site to instruct classes, having strong arts education skills and experience, and possessing or obtaining de-escalation training. The teacher must also be able to move throughout the 40K square foot facility that includes stairs, ramps, indoor and outdoor spaces.
