Overview:
Abrons Arts Center's Arts Education Program is seeking a ballet teacher to join the Abrons Arts Center faculty. They will design and teach beginner's ballet classes on Wednesdays, 4 - 5 pm (5 - 8-year-old) and 5 - 6pm (9-12-year-old). Classes culminate in an end of semester performance at Abrons Arts Center.

- Enthusiastic and interested in contemporary arts practices and arts education innovation
- Committed to meeting the program's administrative requests, inclusive of lesson plans, evaluations, and time sheets
- Excited to continue growing your artistic practice in tandem with teaching
You have:
- 3-5 years of teaching artist experience
- 10+ years of technical training in ballet
- 5+ years of professional dance experience
- Choreography experience
- Strong classroom management skills
- Proficiency in social-emotional learning methods
- Robust awareness of and passion for diverse contemporary dance
- Conflict mediation and de-escalation skills
- Enthusiasm for working with young people
- Social adaptability and ability to support a range of learning styles
You will support the Abrons Arts Education Program by:
- Cultivating a classroom environment that is consent-based and affirming to learners of all genders identities, body types, and technical skill levels
- Connecting with students to build positive relationships and sense of community and belonging
- Clearly and effectively communicating with Abrons Education staff and families about goals of curriculum
- Creating dynamic, exciting, and fun ballet dance performances for the end of the semester showcase
Essential Physical Job Functions:
- Must be New York City based and be present on-site to instruct classes
- Must have strong arts education skills and experience
- Possessing or obtaining de-escalation training
- Must be able to move throughout our 40K square foot facility that includes stairs, ramps, indoor and outdoor spaces.
