Job Summary:
The ideal candidate will support the District's mission and vision and have the primary responsibility to plan and deliver developmentally appropriate lessons that meet state-mandated standards. Each teacher will also communicate regularly and effectively with students/parents. The High School World Language Teacher is responsible for instructing students in a language other than their native tongue, fostering both linguistic and cultural understanding. This role involves developing and implementing engaging lesson plans, assessing student progress, and creating a supportive classroom environment that encourages active participation and language acquisition.

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Curriculum development and instruction: World Language Teachers implement comprehensive curricula and lesson plans aligned with state and national standards, incorporating diverse teaching methods and materials to accommodate various learning styles.
- Language Proficiency Development: Focus on developing students' abilities in reading, writing, speaking, and listening in the target language, including grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and cultural context.
- Cultural Immersion: Integrating cultural studies, literature, and real-life scenarios into the curriculum to enhance students' understanding of the target language and its culture.
- Assessment and Evaluation: They assess students' progress through various methods, including exams, quizzes, and other assessments, providing constructive feedback and guidance to support their language development.
- Classroom Management and Environment: Creating a positive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters student engagement, participation, and a comfortable atmosphere for language practice and exploration.
- Collaboration and Communication: Working with colleagues, administrators, and parents to support student achievement and address any challenges, fostering open communication and collaboration.
- Professional Development: Staying current with language teaching methodologies, cultural trends, and best practices through ongoing professional development.
- Extracurricular Activities: Organizing and leading extracurricular activities like language clubs or cultural events to enhance student learning and engagement.
- Technology Integration: Utilizing technology and digital resources to support innovative language instruction and engage students.
Required Skills & Abilities:
- Fluency in the target language: High proficiency in the language being taught, including speaking, writing, reading, and listening skills.
- Strong pedagogical skills: Ability to design and deliver effective lesson plans, assess student learning, and adapt teaching methods to meet diverse needs.
- Cultural sensitivity & awareness: Understanding and appreciation of the cultural context of the language being taught.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Organizational and time management skills: Ability to manage classroom activities, assessments, and record-keeping effectively.
- Adaptability and flexibility: Ability to adapt to changing situations and student needs.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree from accredited college or university required
- Valid PA Certification: Spanish K-12, French K-12, Mandarin K-12, Latin K-12, or American Sign Language K-12
- Master's Degree in Education or a related field of study desired
- 2+ years of experience teaching in education environment desired
Pre-employment Paperwork Requirements:
- Pennsylvania Criminal Background Check, FBI Fingerprinting Background Check, Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance
- Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure release (Act 168) forms
- School Personnel Health Record and TB Test
Physical Requirements:
- Pushing, moving and lifting objects with a strength factor of light work
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of standard office equipment
- Clarity of vision at varying distances
- Verbal, auditory and written capabilities to effectively communicate in an articulate manner
- Sitting and standing for extended periods of time
- Frequent sitting, standing and walking
- Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally to retrieve and store files and supplies
- Lifting objects with a strength factor of light work
- Occasional bending, reaching and stretching
- Occasional kneeling, crouching and squatting
- Occasional pulling, pushing
Level of Compensation:
$54,000 to $104,000 (dependent on step and track placement as determined based on collective bargaining agreements)
This is a 10-month position in the Southeast Delco Education Association contract group.
