Washington Virtual Academies (WAVA), an Alternative Learning Environment (ALE) program of Omak School District, is seeking motivated and energetic WA State certified teachers to work in our innovative on-line educational environment. WAVA's mission is to empower every student for success in learning, work and life. WAVA's core belief is that ALL students are capable of success - no exceptions. WAVA teachers work primarily from their homes and must reside in WA State.
Essential Job Duties:
- Takes ownership for student's academic progress and attendance, communicating high expectations and showing active interest in student's achievement;
- Prepares students for high school graduation
- Conducts live Synchronous Teaching to meet the learning needs of students.
- Asynchronously supports objectives, including composing/sending emails, planning course objectives, preparing lesson plans, and using data to determine student needs;
- Collaborates with PLC's, Departments, Adminstration and Building Leadership teams regarding instruction, resources, interventions and data-driven decision making;
- Submits grades and required student work ensuring student academic honesty and integrity; Maintains grade book; Supports placement and promotion decisions by generating formal and informal reports regarding student progress, alerting administrators to concerns about student performance and progress
- Establishes and maintains positive rapport with families and regularly communicates with students and learning coaches/parents on an ongoing regular basis;
- High School Teachers support learning coaches/parents with student curricular and instructional issues in a virtual classroom environment, in line with academy policies and procedures;
- Supports students and learning coaches with the set-up and maintenance of their learning environment including basic computer troubleshooting;
- Understands how both diverse and unique characteristics of students and their families impact required support;
- Works collaboratively with other teachers to ensure that all students are successfully progressing through the program, that parents have a central point of contact, and that tasks are distributed among the stakeholders;
- Responds to students, parents and colleagues in timely manner.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree preferred
- 3+ years of teaching experience
- Shared view of the virtual academy's mission
- Strong content and subject-matter knowledge
- Appropriate state certification
- An ability to support and guide adults as well as students
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Organization and time-management skills
- Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, and Outlook, and experience using them in a professional capacity
- Experience working with students in Alternative Learning Environments preferred
- Experience using a variety of web-based technology preferred
- Experience using a student information system and/or other type of database preferred
- An ability to support adults with basic computer set-up and navigation preferred
Work Calendar:
1.0 FTE in line with the approved 2025-2026 WAVA School Calendar. Teachers will be available from 8-4 each school day to complete required tasks & responsibilities.
