The incumbent in this position is responsible for teaching the assigned career and technical subject(s) to students at a correctional institution/facility. Duties include but will not be limited to the following:
- Plans, develops, and conducts classes in assigned subjects, utilizing various teaching techniques to assist student advancement.
- Supervises inmates in the class, conduct roll calls, counts, and maintain attendance records.
- Ensures order, discipline, tool control, and safety in the classroom and/or shop.
- Evaluates student progress, administers grades and tests, and counsels individuals on program progress, behavior, or personal concerns.
- Participates in staff meetings, seminars, and workshops for curriculum changes and professional development, and assist in budget preparation and purchase requests for the education program.

Salary incentives: applicants in possession of a master's degree may be eligible for an additional $1,499.94 annually. Possession of a temporary or professional teaching certificate may be eligible for a one-time $1,000 hiring bonus.
Requirements include a high school diploma or its equivalent and three (3) years' experience in the CTE subject area being taught; or possession of current licensure or certification(s) in the CTE being taught or a postsecondary certificate of completion may substitute for up to one (1) year of the required experience. Must hold the applicable subject area license or industry certification or be willing to possess within 12 months of hire. Must possess or be eligible to apply for a Temporary Florida Department of Corrections Educator's Certificate or if applicable a temporary State of Florida Educator's Certificate.

Additional information includes a background screening requirement and employment eligibility. The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) only hires U.S. citizens and those authorized to work in the U.S. FDC uses E-Verify to confirm an employee's eligibility to work after completing the I-9 form.
