Position Description
Columbus Academy seeks a full-time Upper School Math Teacher with responsibilities to begin in August 2025.
The individual selected for this position will be expected to carry out the following responsibilities:
- Teach four to five sections that may include Geometry, Algebra 2, Precalculus, Calculus, Statistics, Multivariable Calculus, and Linear Algebra
- Serve as a grade-level advisor to roughly 10 students; prepared to learn and implement advisory curriculum
- Assume a share of supervisory responsibilities expected of all upper school faculty members
- Collaborate with grade-level and departmental colleagues on curriculum design and development
- Provide periodic updates to parents about student progress, via both written reports and in-person conferences
- Make use of technological resources, including the school’s online learning management site for classes and integration of iPads and laptops in classroom activities
- Hold students accountable for the Academy’s standards of behavior
- Work with others in the school community to support each student’s emotional well-being
Qualifications
Preferred candidates will possess the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in mathematics education or a closely related field
- Minimum of three years of teaching experience in middle or high school, preferably in mathematics
- Passion for teaching high school students
- Enthusiasm for the study of math concepts
- Knowledge of varied pedagogy and trends in mathematical instruction at the high school level
- Leadership qualities to inspire, motivate and develop students
- A reflective practitioner, committed to a continuous process of self-improvement and lifelong learning
- Enthusiasm, a positive sense of humor, self-confidence, and effective oral and written communication skills
- Ability to lead or direct extracurricular activity or coach interscholastic sport if desired

- Classroom environment
- Mobility around school buildings and on different floors (handicap accessible)
