Upper elementary teacher The 5/6th Grade Teacher is responsible for creating and delivering engaging, academically appropriate lessons to students cultivating belonging. This role involves fostering a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports academic, social, and emotional growth. The teacher will collaborate with colleagues, team with a partner teacher, communicate effectively with parents, and assess student progress to ensure all students meet learning objectives. Additionally, this teacher designs and facilitates dynamic, student-centered learning experiences through project-based approaches. This role emphasizes inquiry, collaboration, and real-world problem solving to foster deep understanding and engagement among elementary students. The teacher will guide students in developing critical thinking, creativity, and teamwork skills while meeting curriculum standards. Key Responsibilities: Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons that facilitate active learning and align with common core standards creating universal access to diverse learning styles. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students. Assess student performance through assignments, tests, projects, and other evaluations; maintain accurate records of student progress. Manage classroom behavior using positive discipline techniques and establish clear expectations. Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and needs. Participate in staff meetings, professional development sessions, and school-wide events. Collaborate with other teachers and staff to support students' academic and personal growth. Identify students who may need additional support or enrichment and work was a team to offer support. Develop and implement project-based learning units that integrate multiple subject areas based on inquiry and exploration through hands-on, collaborative projects that connect learning to real-world contexts. Create a classroom environment that encourages curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, and student ownership of learning. Guide students in setting goals, managing projects, and reflecting on their learning process and outcomes and assess student learning through diverse methods. Differentiate instruction to meet the varied needs, interests, and abilities of all learners. Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and community partners to enhance project relevance and resources. Integrate technology and digital tools to support project work and communication. Foster a positive and inclusive classroom culture that promotes respect, responsibility, and teamwork. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Education or related field; teaching certification/license for elementary education preferred. Experience teaching math or science to elementary students is preferred, especially at the ⅚ grade levels Strong knowledge of grade-level academic standards, curriculum and developmental trajectories.
