Turnaround School Auxiliary Teacher
To work collaboratively with a Lead Teacher as assigned to address K-2 foundational skills by performing supportive duties as relating to the district's curriculum and program guidelines.
Reports To: School Principal as assigned

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides support to teachers in classrooms, resource centers, and other school-related areas as assigned to assist with a variety of duties and activities related to the school district's elementary programs.
- Assists with the general supervision of students both inside and outside the classroom during instruction, lunch, recess, special activities, etc. for the purpose of enforcing appropriate rules and procedures in accordance with district policies, maintaining clear standards of student behavior, and achieving an orderly, functional environment conducive to learning.
- Assist in providing a balanced program of individualized and group instruction, demonstration, activities, and work time to adapt the curriculum to meet students' varying learning styles and provide opportunities for observation, lecture, inquiry, group discussion, and investigation.
- Model conversation, cooperation, and collaboration with the lead teacher. Mutual respect and professionalism are always expected.
- Guides students in the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for all lessons while striving to implement the school district's philosophy of education and instructional goals.
- Works directly with students on an individual or group basis as assigned and directed by the assigned teacher to administer lesson plans, provide instructional assistance, and reinforce proficiency in AL COS standards.
- Prepares, secures, and arranges materials, equipment, and resources needed for instructional use, assembles current displays and bulletin boards, and assists in maintaining a clean and organized learning environment.
- To collaborate with teachers to enforce appropriate classroom rules and procedures in accordance with district policies and maintains clear standards of student behavior to achieve an orderly, functional environment conducive to learning.
- Maintains familiarity with the school's safety plan and actively contributes to a safe school environment by following applicable procedures and laws, reporting unsafe actions and/or conditions, and assisting with supervision as required.
- Collaboratively plans comprehensive, educational courses of study as approved by the HCS Board of Education and correlating lesson plans, learning activities, and educational materials that meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of assigned students.
- Works with a variety of HCS staff as needed to make necessary accommodations for students as required by Individual Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 plans and to integrate appropriate teaching plans and strategies into the district's curriculum to effectively meet students' needs.
- Assists with the use and care of technology and other district equipment and materials in compliance with established policies.
- Participates in all required professional development activities as assigned.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
A Child Development Associate (CDA) credential OR the equivalent of nine hours of coursework in child development as approved by the ALSDE.
Physical Requirements:
Exerts 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
Terms of Employment:
Nine month year. Salary as recommended by the Superintendent and approved by the Board.
