Job Summary
Qualifications:
Must hold a valid Alabama professional educator certificate in middle level or secondary science, mathematics, or computer science.
Must teach full time approved science, mathematics or computer science courses in grades 6-12 with the appropriate certificate endorsement.
Must currently hold an advanced credential form either STEM Education or National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) in science; or dependent upon teaching experience level, obtain a specialized certification or credential within 3 years.
Essential Duties:
- Create a science program and classroom environment favorable to learning and personal growth.
- Plan and implement lessons based on curriculum objectives and the needs and abilities of students.
- Provide high quality instruction in the area of science or computer science.
- Provide opportunities for students to work on real world problems in the areas of science, mathematics, and/or computer science.
- Document student progress by maintaining and submitting appropriate records and reports.
- Assess student progress on a regular basis and in accordance with the system's established procedures.
- Analyze different data sources in making data-driven decisions for instruction.
- Actively participate and work with school/district personnel in planning effective instructional goals, objectives, methods, and curriculum.
- Participate in professional growth and development activities as required or assigned.
- Establish effective rapport with students.
- Motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good educational foundation.
- Utilize technology to motivate students and prepare students for 21st century.
- Participate in school-related activities that enhance teacher, student, parent, and community relations.
- Fulfill the professional development requirements as outlined by the ALSDE.
- Assist in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials when applicable.
- Make reasonable provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes such as conferences.
- Use correct grammar in written and oral communication.
- Establish a positive relationship with students, parents, co-workers, volunteers, and other stakeholders.
- Abide by the Code of Ethics standards established for teachers' professional and personal conduct.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
