Job Description Title: Teams Teacher

Reports To: Principal and Assistant Principal

Job Goal: To lead students toward their potential for intellectual, emotional, psychological, and physical growth and maturation through provision of appropriate guidance and learning experiences. To provide the designated course of study, appropriate materials and resources to effectively teach children to learn.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  2. Valid Alabama teaching certificate in the grade level, subject area(s) assigned.
  3. Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.

Skills and Physical Abilities:

  • The teacher is regularly required to speak, listen, walk, stand, sit, use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms using a keyboard and video display.
  • The teacher may occasionally be required to stoop, kneel, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, ability to focus, and peripheral vision.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups, for the purpose of maximizing student achievement.
  • Ability to develop and implement curriculum and programming specific to the needs of students at the designated grade level(s) and in the designated content area(s)/subject(s).
  • Ability to use technology to communicate, to plan and provide instruction, to facilitate student learning, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information.
  • Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  1. A teacher should adhere to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policy, and state and federal rules and regulations.
  2. Create an environment conducive to effective learning utilizing functional programs of study that align to local and state curriculum guidelines and meet the individual needs, interest, and abilities of the students while striving to implement the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  3. To assist in fostering student attitudes through teaching, in all activities of the school program, the values of citizenship, self-discipline, morality, and patriotism.
  4. Organize daily class assignments so that instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time; develops weekly lesson plans and instructional materials; translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
  5. Teachers shall be responsible for (1) development of good character and desirable attitudes among pupils, (2) proper protection and care of textbooks, equipment, supplies, and the school property, and (3) maintenance of discipline and good order in classes, school buildings and grounds.
  6. Teachers are expected to attend all meetings to which they are called by the Superintendent or the principal, and to keep accurate records, and make such reports as required by the principal and/or Superintendent and maintain professional growth and competence through professional development.
  7. Assess and communicate student progress to students and parents on a regular basis and provide progress reports as directed and maintain an open communication with students, parents, and staff. Provide students and parents with specific feedback and uses the data or test results to differentiate instruction.
  8. Identifies student needs and makes appropriate referrals and assists in developing strategies for individual education plans daily as needed. Upstands and participates in the development, use, implementation of individualized education plans (IPEs) and individualized transition plans/504 plans, including necessary modifications.
  9. Participates in administration of state and/or standardized testing as assigned; establishes appropriate testing environment and ensures test security.
  10. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  11. Maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding student/school/workplace matters.
  12. Punctuality and regularity are expected of teachers in attending classes, meetings, conferences, and in keeping other school appointments. Teachers shall be in their homerooms or assigned areas fifteen minutes before school starts and fifteen minutes after school has been dismissed for the day.
  13. Assist in daily duties of which may be car duty, extra-curricular duties whenever students are involved in school activities during and/or after school.
  14. Monitor students in a variety of educational environments (e.g., classroom, school grounds, hallways, lunchroom, restrooms, field trips, etc.)
  15. Supervise and/or assist with extracurricular and co-curricular activities as assigned.
  16. Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the school.

In all professional and personal relations, teachers shall be held in observance of a course of conduct consistent with the ethics of the teaching profession.

Teams Employment Terms:

  1. Participating teachers are required to be on contract for 189 days.
  2. Participating teachers are required to hold a valid Alabama teaching certificate, approved for middle (4-8) or secondary (6-12) for math, science, or computer science courses.
  3. Participating teachers must teach every period in the ALSDE approved math, science, or computer science courses, with the exception of one planning period.
  4. Participating teachers must obtain the STEM Advanced Credential through the National Institute for STEM (NISE) within the first full contract year or obtain NBCT certification within 3 years with adequate yearly progress.
  5. Participating teachers are required to have nine professional development days, and at least four of the nine must be approved by the Alabama State Department of Education. All professional development must be documented in PowerSchool Professional Learning.
  6. A teacher who has attained continuing service status with his or her local education agency (LEA), and elects' participation in the program under the same LEA, shall be deemed to have voluntarily relinquished his or her status and protections under the Students First Act.
  7. First contract would be PRELIMINARY one-year, unless the teacher already has one of the specialized credentialsthen the teacher can obtain an ADVANCED contract immediately.
  8. Teachers with over 20 years of service have to agree to participation for a term of five years.
  9. At end of PRELIMINARY or ADVANCED contract, the LEA may offer the participating teacher a new contract, terminate the teacher's employment by non-renewing or not approving a new contract, or reemploy the teacher in an appropriate position outside of the program.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Certified Employees.
