TEACHER - OUT OF SCHOOL SUSPENSION COORDINATOR
NORWALK ALTERNATIVE OPPORTUNITY PROGRAM
Primary Purpose:
This position supervises students assigned to Out-of-School Suspension and support of special needs students in the NAOP program. Responsibilities include monitoring student behavior, assisting students with assignments, and assisting with maintaining student suspension records.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Create systems and protocols to ensure behavior expectations are communicated and provide incentives for positive behaviors.
Monitors student behavior in Out-of-School Suspension classroom; reinforces appropriate behavior and ensures students stay on task. Communicates and enforces rules.
Assists students with work assignments and answers questions. Contact teachers to obtain homework assignments as needed. Reinforces classroom learning activities and objectives.
Records information for students entering Out-of-School Suspension, such as grade level, behavior, and reason for suspension.
Maintains records of student activities and behavior while in suspension classroom and forwards information to teachers and school administrators. Types of program-related materials.
Exchanges information with school and central office staff concerning students assigned to the program; participates in staff meetings as requested.
Identify and communicate trends in Out-Of-School suspension activity.
Student Growth and Development: Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
Classroom Management and Organization: Create classroom environments conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students. Support positive student behavior.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials to optimize student success.
Communication: Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
Use practical communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
Required Qualifications: Skills / Abilities and Knowledge
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Proficient in the effective use of technology in support of suspension reporting
Ability to instruct students and support positive behavior and monitoring responsibilities
Education/ Certification Certification in Special Education (165) and Master's in Education preferred
092 Administration Certification preferred
Other: Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or district office administrator.
Affiliation: NFT
Days: Monday - Friday (37.5 hours weekly/schedule determined by supervising administrator)
Salary: In line with the NFT contract
Work year: August - June (10 Months/40 weeks)
