JOB TITLE: TEACHER, SPECIAL EDUCATION
REPORTS TO: Riverdale High School Prinicipal
Position Purpose:
The Special Education Teacher will deliver high-quality, individualized instruction to high school students with diverse learning needs and disabilities. This role is situated within a comprehensive school building, where the teacher will work to meet IEP objectives by collaborating with general education teachers and other staff. The teacher will be responsible for creating and executing IEPs for students with disabilities ranging from mild to severe. The ideal candidate will be skilled at adapting instruction to meet varied student needs and will work to ensure students are served in the least restrictive environment possible through inclusion in general education placements. This is a .6 FTE, 190-day position.
NATURE & SCOPE
This position is subject to board policies, administrative rules and procedures, department regulations and applicable State and Federal statutes. This position carries no administrative authority or responsibilities.
This position is located at Riverdale High School.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Essential Job Functions:
Assess students' educational needs and conduct evaluations to inform individualized planning.
Develop and write Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that align with student needs and district guidelines.
Design and implement instructional plans , record student performance data, and modify instruction as needed to ensure student progress towards IEP goals.
Report pupil progress to parents, students, and relevant school personnel according to program procedures and timelines.
Establish and maintain appropriate student behavior through positive behavior supports and effective classroom management strategies.
Direct and supervise the activities of Educational and Classroom Assistants to support student learning and classroom operations.
Communicate and collaborate cooperatively with parents, students, general education teachers, building personnel, supervisors, and community members to address individual student needs and ensure a cohesive educational experience.
Implement program-adopted crisis prevention/intervention strategies , including the use of de-escalation procedures and physical interventions as necessary, to ensure student safety and prevent injuries.
Maintain accurate and confidential records for all students, ensuring compliance with all state and federal regulations and meeting established timelines.
Adhere to all school building, District, and Riverdale School District/Multnomah ESD policies and procedures
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Building Principal or which are indicated to assure the physical and emotional well-being of students.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
If assigned to a classroom requiring lifting, must be able to lift up to 50-60 lbs. according to established procedures. Exact lifting requirements will vary based upon classroom assignments.
Valid First Aid and CPR card.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Valid Oregon Teaching License with Special Education Endorsement.
