Description: General Description : Under the general direction of the preschool director, the lead teacher strives to achieve the goals of Catholic education by providing the planning, organizing, managing, supervising, communicating, and evaluating necessary to effective daily instruction of students within the parish school.
Duties of the Job : 1. Strives to achieve the goals of a developmentally appropriate program. 2. Strives to achieve the goals of Catholic education. 3. Provides daily instruction to the students; assumes responsibility for the leadership and management for the classes assigned. 4. Works as a member of the preschool team. 5. Plans and implements a daily program of study; reviews curriculum; establishes learning outcomes or educational objectives based on Archdiocesan guidelines. 6. Develops an appropriate learning and social environment. 7. Evaluates the needs of each child. 8. Assists in the development and supervision of the outside area. 9. Evaluates and reports student progress. 10. Establishes positive school community relationships. 11. Continues professional development to remain current with catechesis and academic standards. 12. Performs any other job-related task deemed necessary and/or assigned by the director. Requirements: Required Education and Experience : An early childhood teacher, assigned responsibility for a single group of children and working under the supervision of a director, must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and must meet at least one of the following qualifications: a. A Bachelor's or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university with a major area of study in one of the following areas: 1) Early childhood education; 2) Elementary education; 3) Special education; 4) Family and child development; 5) Child psychology b. A Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university with a major area of study in any area other than those listed above with an additional two (2) 3-credit semester credit courses in early childhood in the following: 1) Introduction to Early Childhood 2) Guidance Strategies or Pyramid Model Training. c. An Associate’s degree from an accredited college in Early Childhood Education or Child Development which must include at least 2 of the following: 1) Introduction to Early Childhood Professionals 2) Guidance Strategies or Pyramid Model Training. d. A current professional teaching license issued by the Colorado Department of Education. e. A current Early Childhood Professional Credential in Level 2 or higher in Version 3.0. f. Three (3) months (455 hours) of verified experience in the supervision of four or more children not related to the individual; and the completion of 18 semester credit hours from an accredited college in Early Childhood with one course as follows: 1) Introduction to Early Childhood Professions 2) Guidance Strategies or Pyramid Model Training. g. Twenty-one (21) months (3,185 hours) of verified experience in the supervision of four or more children not related to the individual. The individual must either: 1) Possess a level 1 or higher in Version 3.0 2) Complete two (2) three semester credit hour courses from an accredited college in: 3) Intro to Early Childhood Professions 4) Guidance Strategies or Pyramid Model Training. 3. All college course grades toward early childhood teacher qualifications must be "C" or better.
4. Must complete 15 hours of training per school year.
Additional knowledge, skills, and abilities : 1) Knowledge and experience working with young children and the basics of child development. 2) Knowledge of activities appropriate to age group. Ability to be flexible with daily routines and schedules to capture “nurturing and teachable moments.” 3) Skills in patience and remaining calm under pressure. Ability to move and react quickly to handle emergencies effectively. 4) Skills in time management and organization. 5) Skills in parent communication. 6) Ability to supervise aides and volunteers, gives instruction, and delegates duties in a professional manner. 7) Acquire knowledge of the current curriculum and implement lesson planning in the classroom.
