The Bethel School District is seeking teacher applicants who have the potential to be leaders and innovative educators. Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to deliver instruction based upon best available research and practices in teaching and learning.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The TOSA will provide support for implementation of evidence-based interventions and will spend the majority of time working in classrooms with teachers (e.g. modeling, observing, and co-teaching). The TOSA will participate in the analysis and utilization of student achievement data to impact instructional decision-making. The TOSA monitors program compliance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Serve as the primary contact for Native Education regarding student referrals for attendance, cultural programming, and small group instruction
Collaborate with the Teaching and Learning Department to provide professional development on local tribal history, language, and cultural traditions.
Plan, organize, and implement cultural events and programs - including field trips, assemblies, and family nights - in collaboration with the Indigenous Parent Committee, the Nisqually Tribe, the Puyallup Tribe, and other local tribal partners.
Coordinate College and Career Fairs and related opportunities tailored to Title VI students to support post-secondary awareness and readiness.
Support and mentor secondary student leaders participating in the Native American Youth Leadership Academy.
Collaborate with district leadership, building principals, the Behavioral Health Department, counselors, social workers, equity specialists, On-Time Graduation Specialists, Title III department, and other staff members to support student well-being and success.
Build capacity of school staff to effectively support Native American students academically, socially, and culturally.
Provide presentations at school staff meetings and district-wide training events to build cultural competency and awareness.
Facilitate and coordinate Indigenous Parent Committee meetings and maintain strong family-school-community partnerships.
Attend school and district meetings to support Native students and families, including parent-teacher conferences, IEP meetings, and staff meetings.
Advocate for the academic and personal success of Native students across Bethel schools.
Serve as a liaison between Bethel School District and local tribes, ensuring strong, respectful relationships.
Support implementation of the John McCoy (lulilas) Since Time Immemorial tribal sovereignty curriculum.
Manage Title VI documentation, support federal compliance, and assist in applying for relevant grant opportunities to strengthen program offerings.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Director of Title and LAP / Supervisor for Native Education.
CONDITIONS
May be required to deal with distraught students/parents/staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Valid and appropriate certification.
Three years or more of teaching experience preferred.
Experience on state and/or district instructional committees.
Experience in leadership activities.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to articulate ideas and communicate well with others.
Ability to organize ideas and coordinate multiple tasks and materials to accomplish goals.
Ability to organize time and commit to a flexible work schedule.
Experience collaborating with teachers and administration around instructional practices.
Desired Qualifications/Characteristics Demonstrated knowledge of, or lived experience with, Native American cultures, communities, and histories.
Ability to understand, interpret, and contribute to the development of school district policies, and effectively communicate with Native American students and their families.
Experience working with diverse student populations - particularly Native American students - and a strong commitment to supporting historically underserved communities.
Proven experience applying for and managing educational grants at the local, state, or federal level is highly desirable.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with tribal representatives, community organizations, and families.
Experience delivering culturally responsive instructional support and professional development.
Familiarity with Title VI, Indian Education programs, and federal grant compliance requirements.
Access to and knowledge of resources that support Native students in successfully completing their education.
Licenses/Special Requirements
Must have a valid teacher's license and/or ability to obtain teacher certification upon selection. Possess a valid driver's license and proof of insurance.
