We are located in the Indian Wells Valley of California's beautiful high desert. The valley, averaging 2,500 feet in elevation, is surrounded by the magnificent Sierra Nevada, Coso, and Argus Mountain Ranges. The city of Los Angeles is a three-hour drive to the south, and Bakersfield, the Kern County seat, is two hours to the west. The highest and lowest points in the contiguous United States (Mount Whitney in the Sierra Nevadas and Badwater in Death Valley) are both within a comfortable driving distance. The air in the Indian Wells Valley is clean and clear with practically unlimited visibility.

Job Summary

One outcome of the development of the District's Local Control Accountability Plan ("LCAP") for 2025-2026 will be the addition of an Alternative to Suspension Program ("ASP"). Specifically, this new program was prioritized as a necessary resource to accomplish our LCAP: Goal 2: Student Engagement. This goal aims to maximize student engagement and achievement to empower students for life goals and long-term fulfillment. The ASP will serve students from TK through 12, and it will provide students who would have otherwise been suspended from school with the opportunity to attend the ASP to receive specialized instruction related to their specific behavior (e.g., anger management lessons for a student involved in a physical altercation). Those students who successfully meet the program's requirements will not be marked absent or considered suspended. An additional program component will include follow-up support for students after they return to campus.

The TOSA for Alternative to Suspension and the Alternative Education Counselor will partner in facilitating the program. The ASP will be considered a District's Student Services Department component. As such, the administrator responsible for promoting the program is the Student Services Coordinator. The ASP will be located at the former James Monroe Middle School campus.
