This is a 1.0 FTE continuing contract Dean of Students position at Voyager Middle School effective the 2025 - 2026 school year.
Salary listed is for the 2024 - 2025 school year.
JOB TITLE: MIDDLE SCHOOL DEAN OF STUDENTS
JOB SUMMARY: Lead or coordinate various middle school programs that promote safety, student achievement, and school improvement.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Oversee student attendance program including using a variety of interventions for the purpose of promoting excellent student attendance.
- Assist with the implementation of school-wide discipline program for the purpose of promoting effective student behavior and success.
- Coordinate building, district and state testing.
- Provide assistance with and/or facilitate building specific committees for the purpose of promoting school safety, student achievement, and/or school improvement.
- Coordinate or lead various district and school programs for the purpose of enhancing communication, involvement and student success.
- Communicate and collaborate with parents and school community for the purpose of fostering student success and achievement.
- Foster and manage a safe, positive learning environment for the purpose of promoting effective student behavior and success.
- Maintain and submit information/records including student progress.
- Participate in various meetings for the purpose of implementing school initiatives and addressing student needs.
- Implement and comply with District policies and the Code of Professional Conduct.
- Maintain consistent attendance and conform to regular work hours specified under contract.
- Fulfill other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
JOB REQUIREMENTS; MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include:
- Knowledge of and ability to use a variety of instructional and student management strategies.
- Knowledge of middle school curriculum (6-8).
- Ability to collect and analyze data using various technology tools and programs.
- Knowledge or and ability to use data-driven best practices.
- Understanding and use of restorative justice practices.
- Knowledge of rules and regulations governing schools.
- Skills in managing and promoting positive student behavior.
- Knowledge and understanding of middle school philosophy.
- Ability to effectively meet developmental needs of middle school students.
- Skill, ability and passion for working with at-risk adolescents.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with others.
- Skills in and ability to communicate effectively with others.
- Skills and abilities in organization, time management, and record keeping.
- Ability to interact positively and effectively with parents, students, staff, and administrators.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to strengthen job-related competencies.
EDUCATION:
- Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate; possess endorsement(s) appropriate for middle school (grades 6-8) students.
EXPERIENCE:
- Middle school teaching and leadership experience.
- Experience leading school-wide student behavior supports and interventions.
- Proficiency using technology tools and programs to collect and analyze student behavior and achievement data.
- Communicating with and presenting to a wide variety of school stakeholders.
- Experience/exposure working with student in poverty.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Possess or be working toward administrative credential, preferred.
