Nahant Public Schools Job Posting: K-6 Music Teacher - General and Instrumental Music (.2 Part-Time instruction and additional Contract opportunities equivalent to 1 full school day and a 2nd day that would consist of hours before, during or after school day- negotiable)
The Johnson Elementary School in Nahant, MA is seeking a certified dynamic and creative Music Educator to teach both General and Instrumental Music to students in grades K-6. This is a unique position that can grow to fit your strengths and schedule, with opportunities for additional contract-based hours. Position Details:
General Music Teacher (Johnson Elementary School - 1 day/week, 0.2 FTE) Teach general music to students in grades K-6 in a welcoming elementary school setting with small class sizes and supportive staff. Curriculum is guided by the Massachusetts DESE Arts (Music) Curriculum Framework .
Responsibilities include: Deliver engaging music instruction based on the MA Arts Curriculum Framework. Differentiate music curriculum to meet the needs of the individual student and the student body. Foster musicianship skills through singing, movement, playing classroom instruments (percussion, recorders, handbells, ukuleles, xylophones), composing, and improvisation. Integrate music technology and software where appropriate. Organize, plan and direct two choral performances annually for families and community. Create a positive classroom environment to support learning for all students. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and music performances. Evaluate each student's musical growth and contribution to the performance of the group that allows everyone to contribute. Communicate clearly with parents and school faculty/staff on the progress of individual students. Piano and choral experience are a plus. Provide substitute easy to implement music lesson plans for substitutes (as needed) Instrumental/Choral Music Teacher (Hourly Contract Work - 1 day/week at Johnson School) This opportunity is available for instrumental/choral music instruction, including during and after school hours. Compensation is based on an hourly rate, with schedule and exact hours to be determined based on program needs and school scheduling .
Responsibilities include: Teach instrumental/vocal music lessons (including but not limited to trumpet, clarinet, flute, trombone, and percussion) during the school day (Grades 4-6). Lead and manage an after-school instrument band/choral program. Collaborate with school leadership and families to foster participation and enthusiasm for instrumental/choral music. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and music performances. Student performances for community events (per Supt/Principal) Potential for 4 days (0.8) + day 5 contractual hours for lessons and band/choral: For the right candidate, this role may be expanded to include up to three additional days (0.6) in partnership with our neighboring Swampscott District, resulting in a four-day/week salaried position (0.8) plus one day of contract-based instrumental/vocal teaching for grades 4-6 students. Qualifications: Valid MA DESE licensure in Music: Vocal/Instrumental/General (PreK-12) required. Bachelor's required (Master's Preferred) SEI Teacher Endorsement Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills. Enthusiasm for teaching and inspiring young musicians of all skill levels. Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent Experience with both general and instrumental music (preferred) Creativity in developing a performing musical group (preferred) Compensation: Competitive salary per collective bargaining agreement for salaried FTE.
