Job Summary: Substitute teachers perform the instructional and classroom management processes for teachers who are absent for a day or longer periods of time. Their duties include taking attendance, explaining homework, and maintaining classroom cleanliness.
Required Professional Qualities It is expected that the Substitute Teacher will possess: A valid and current Substitute Teacher permit Some college-48 credit hours Bachelor's degree in education preferred Strong English verbal and written communication skills Excellent interpersonal skills Ability to lead and instruct students of all ages General knowledge of several subjects Ability to adapt plans to specific classrooms Flexibility and critical thinking skills Patience
Essential Job Functions - Accountabilities It is expected that the Substitute Teachers will: Follow lesson plans provided by the regular Teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment Adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of each individual student Supervise students in and out of the classroom, including in the halls, on the playground and in the cafeteria Take attendance and document daily notes. Provide in-class and at-home assignments based on the available lesson plan Compile a report for the teacher for when they return
Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods standing. Must be able to lift, bend, stoop, climb, reach, and lift up to 20 pounds at a time. Must be able to traverse school facilities and lead students to safety in an emergency.
