Student Services Specialist/ESE Teacher

This is a dynamic position that will be responsible for all Exceptional Student Education procedures and services, Section 504 procedures and supports, school-wide behavioral support, Progress Monitoring Plans, and English Language Learner support. The right candidate should demonstrate initiative and organization, possess great written and verbal communication skills, and have experience in Exceptional Student Education policies and procedures, as well as Section 504, Positive Discipline, and behavior pedagogy/interventions. Florida state certification in Exceptional Student Education and/or the ability to become state-certified is a must.
This SSS is responsible for providing classroom and behavioral supports for students to allow each student to successfully participate in academic and social aspects of the school day. The SSS will also work with teachers to identify and implement classroom management strategies that support all learners. They will also work to ensure compliance in Exceptional Student Education paperwork, procedures, and services and Section 504 evaluation, paperwork, and implementation of accommodations for students with 504 plans.
The SSS is responsible for developing, planning, organizing, and implementing an instructional program for exceptional student education (ESE) students/Section 504/English Language Learners (ELL) through curriculum, lesson plans, educational programs and individual education plan development while ensuring that all procedures are followed to maintain safety and security and to meet federal, state, local regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Cooperate with business, civic, and other organizations to develop curriculum to meet the needs and interests of students and community
Assist in the Exceptional Student Education (ESE) and Section 504 process for students
Coordinate ESE and Section 504 evaluations, re-evaluations, and required meetings
Assist in developing, writing, and updating Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
Provide quarterly Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Progress Reports to parents
Provide specially designed instruction to Exceptional Student Education (ESE) students as outlined on their Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
Develop, monitor, and modify Individual Educational Plans (IEP) and Section 504 Plans for eligible students; ensure that teachers are aware of and successfully implementing appropriate services, modifications, and/or accommodations
Coordinate/complete/maintain ESE and Section 504 processes, procedures, and paperwork
Provide meeting notices and consents within outlined timeframes
Facilitate evaluation/eligibility determination team meetings for ESE and Section 504
Schedule, organize, and conduct annual or bi-annual reviews of each Section 504 students
Participate in the school's Student Support Team; help teachers and learning coaches develop and implement program accommodations and strategies for struggling learners who may be eligible for ESE/IEP or 504 and/or special education services
Maintain accurate and up-to-date data for ESE and/or Section 504 students
Assist with administering state testing and coordinate the accommodations that are required based on ESE/IEP/504 plans
Attend regularly scheduled professional development and ESE/Section 504/Behavior training meetings
Provide on-site in-service training to school-based personnel on a regular basis
Prepare/maintain ESE, 504, PMP, ELL folders for approval by the District
Assist teachers in implementing effective classroom management strategies and/or interventions
Develop behavior plans and specific intervention plans for students and assist in their implementation, including using appropriate resources and technology to promote the development of critical thinking, problem-solving, and pro-social behavior in students
Work with students in classrooms to reach goals as determined by their educational plan
Work with students in one-on-one and group settings to develop the skills and self-esteem necessary for identified students to exercise meaningful options in areas of school, leisure, and inter/intra personal relationships
Provide support to students who display impulsive behaviors, low self-esteem, and impaired social skills
Conduct ongoing follow-up assessment/evaluation/observation/fidelity checks of progress on the behavior plans
Assist teachers in the identification and development of individualized behavior interventions intended to change behaviors; using evidence-based strategies
Collect data regarding student behaviors and recommend appropriate instructional modifications to develop responsible thinking and decision-making skills in students
Identify and implement appropriate interventions for students in need of additional assistance
Assist with professional development for administrators and teachers on behavior intervention, anger management, as well as other topics, and support the staff in the implementation of their new learning
Assist families and school staff in accessing community resources
Assist in the provision of support and informational workshops for parents/guardians
Keep teachers and other staff informed of progress, incidents, and concerns
Participate in in-service training programs designed to improve the ability to provide procedural, curricular, or behavioral assistance
Review current developments, literature, and technical sources of information related to responsibilities
Ensure adherence to safety procedures
Comply with District policies and procedures for 504 and ESE students
Follow federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies
Complete required paperwork in an accurate and timely manner
Assist in car line, lunch duty, and supervision of students, as assigned
Perform other duties as assigned

Salary Range : Salary commensurate with expertise; benefits are included. 10-month position.

Requirements
Experience : Teaching: 3 years (Preferred)
Qualifications : Bachelor's degree, minimum
Master's degree, preferred
Florida State Teaching Certification in Exceptional Student Education, required or eligible to obtain
Willingness to complete Montessori training/courses/inservices
