POSITION: STEM TEACHER (I, II, III)
CLASSIFICATION CODE: EXEMPT FULL TIME

STATEMENT OF JOB: The STEM Teacher is an Arizona Certified Teacher provides therapeutic and recreational services by assisting in organizing, planning, and running school, after school, school breaks, and summer Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) programs services to children and adolescents enrolled or eligible to be enrolled with Apache Behavioral Health Services Inc. (ABHS). This position is responsible for implementation of individualized behavioral health promotion lessons for Social Emotional Learning (SEL) behavioral plans within the context of the ABHS STEM program in school or community-based environments. This position is also responsible for leading in the delivery of the STEM SEL curriculum and hands-on learning projects in classroom environments and during extracurricular activities outside of school. The STEM teacher supports instructors and other STEM SEL Staff with the integration of STEM SEL projects to successfully integrate the use of effective strategies in order to enhance student learning. The STEM SEL Teacher also acts as a Behavioral Health Technician, writing behavioral notes on specific students regarding the implementation of their Behavioral Learning Plan. The STEM SEL Teacher needs a valid Arizona teacher's license to be able to work with students without direct supervision or assistance in the classroom. The STEM Teacher with an AZ teaching certification can more to STEM Teacher Level II with a STEM area focus AZ certification and to STEM Teacher Level III with a Master’s Degree in an educational area.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manages a caseload of clients/potential clients who would benefit from behavioral health services.
- Provides therapeutic services assistance to ABHS clinical staff, including, but not limited to, school and community visits, appointment coordination, outreach services for clients having difficulty accessing services, and/or for reengagement in treatment services.
- Facilitates group and individual behavioral health promotion and education programs in coordination with ABHS clinician, including, but not limited to client walk-in services.
- Facilitates group and individual behavioral health promotion programs before, during, and after STEM projects and provides individual, group, and family counseling services to clients when needed.
- Documents contact with clients in order to assess needs, maintain required paperwork and engage family members. Complete documentation in accordance with Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) and ABHS Standards.
- Work directly with STEM Instructors, Specialty Coaches, Developers and school Teachers in the development, implementation, and evaluation of STEM SEL initiatives and curriculum.
- Provide consistent communication with Clinicians, ABHS School Therapists, School Coaches in the delivery of Behavioral Health services of ABHS enrolled clients.
- Lead in organizing, coordinating, and delivering any special STEM SEL events/activities including before school, after school, lunchtime, weekends, holidays, and summer break.
- Implement the STEM SEL curriculum for K-12 students across a school location or multiple locations; instruct K-12 classes of students as a STEM SEL Teacher.
- Prepare weekly STEM project lesson plans, project examples for use in classroom projects, and verify all STEM supplies needed are on hand to deliver lessons.
- Identify and report to STEM SEL Developers and other STEM Teachers concerning learning needs, barriers and challenges in the organizing and implementation of STEM SEL curricula; and implement problem-solving actions.
- Communicate with STEM staff about project supplies and tools needed and fill out ordering information for procuring items necessary for STEM project implementation.
- Serve as a leader to the entire STEM SEL program in a specifically designated STEAM focus area in which you provide direction and training for all staff in the ABHS STEM SEL program.
- Serve as a school site administrative supervisor for the STEM staff at a specific school location(s). This includes responsibility for granting leave, signing leave and timesheet forms, and productivity reporting.
- Assist and provide input and support plans to implement STEM SEL curricula into existing courses or assist in developing new courses and curricula. Ensure all program activities are directly connected to both the classroom expectations of the school and the vision of the STEM SEL Program.
- Share information and best practices in STEM SEL implementation with the school and STEM SEL staff. Provide technical assistance and training to STEM Instructors and other STEM staff concerning the implementation of STEM SEL lessons.
- Provide oversight for technology devices used in the classroom. Train STEM staff on the implementation and use of technology to deliver the STEM SEL lessons.
- Responsible to coordinate and help organize any special STEM SEL events/activities including before school, after school, lunchtime, weekends, and holidays.
- Abide by all applicable policies, procedures, and program standards of ABHS, White Mountain Apache Tribe, Indian Health Services, Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) and other pertinent regulatory authorities.
- Participation in all required ABHS training including ongoing clinical oversight.
- Maintain ethical policies and guidelines as outlined in accepted State ethics laws, rules, policies and principles and as outlined in discipline-specific code of ethics.
- Provide a positive role model to clients and staff through leadership, self-discipline, and genuine care for the treatment and recovery of clients. All clients and staff members must be treated with dignity and respect.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possession of a bachelor's degree in mental health/human services or education related field. One-year mental health experience preferred; experience working with Native Americans preferred.
- A valid Arizona Teaching Certificate: three years teaching experience preferred.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to speak the Apache language preferred.
- Demonstrate strong critical thinking, problem-solving and organizational and time management skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to work effectively with a wide range of people, teams, managers, supervisors, including basic knowledge in supervising and evaluating staff.
- Valid Arizona Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
- MS Office proficiency and ability to correctly operate copy machine and fax.
- Ability to pass all pre-employment testing, including, but not limited to, fingerprint clearance, drug testing and background check.
