Summary We are seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our team at Gordon-Barbour Elementary as a Special Education Teacher. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment that meets the diverse needs of students with disabilities. This full-time position involves working collaboratively with students, parents, and faculty to ensure that all students receive the support and resources they need to succeed academically and socially.
Responsibilities - Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to meet the unique needs of each student. - Collaborate with general education teachers to adapt curriculum and instructional strategies to accommodate students with special needs. - Monitor and assess student progress, providing regular feedback to students and parents. - Create a positive and supportive classroom environment that encourages student engagement and participation. - Utilize a variety of teaching methods and resources to facilitate learning and skill development. - Maintain accurate records of student performance, behavior, and progress, and prepare reports as required. - Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss student needs and progress. - Provide training and support to staff on best practices for working with students with disabilities. - Stay current with special education laws and regulations, ensuring compliance with all applicable policies. - Foster strong relationships with students, parents, and the school community to promote a collaborative educational environment.
Requirements - Bachelor's degree and willing to obtain a Virginia Teaching license. - Valid state certification in Special Education preferred. - Experience working with children with disabilities in an educational setting is highly desirable. - Strong understanding of IEP development and implementation. - Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. - Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of students, staff, and families. - Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed. - Proficiency in using technology and educational software to enhance learning. - Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying informed about best practices in special education.
