*SUMMARY*: The Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing education services as prescribed by student’s individualized education plan (IEP) to students enrolled at Oak Grove /Jack Weaver School. He/She ensures that high quality educational services are provided by maintaining a close working relationship with the Director of Education, education staff, child care and clinical staff, and health services staff. He/She participates in all Education Department functions necessary for the maintenance and growth of service excellence.
PERFORMANCE RELATED JOB EXPECTATIONS: *1. DOCUMENTATION / ACCOUNTABILITY* A. Report cards and progress reports will be completed accurately and submitted by the scheduled due date. B. Educational assessments will be completed accurately and submitted within 20 days of placement. All available resources will be used to present the most accurate student profile. C. Treatment Team Summaries will be completed accurately and submitted two school days prior to the scheduled Treatment Team meeting. D. Lesson plans will be maintained on a weekly basis and reflect individual IEP goals, state standards, daily lessons, materials / resources, and instructional methods. E. Attendance records, grades, and homework records are maintained on a daily basis. F. All necessary IEP-related documents will be prepared completely, accurately and timely, using the appropriate district forms and formats. G. Complete weekly reports and submit on time. H. Complete and submit monthly PI data in a timely manner. *2. INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS / ENVIRONMENT* A. Classroom schedules are posted and followed B. A variety of instructional methods will be employed (direct instruction, small groups, peer tutoring, individualized, independent study). C. Instructional methods correlate with lesson plans and address core curriculum that reflects adherence to state content standards. D. Sufficient appropriate instructional materials will be available. E. A safe, positive, non-punitive environment will be maintained. F. Student input / feedback regarding the instructional process is reinforced. G. The Social Learning Model is utilized appropriately. H. Behavior intervention strategies follow the standards of the Hughes Bill, the Education Code, and school policy. I. Policies regarding homework and Internet use will be strictly enforced. *3. ATTENDANCE GUIDELINES* A. Remain aware of hours scheduled to work and be present and on time for assigned shifts. B. Absences will not exceed Attendance Policy. If unable to work due to illness, calls supervisor within necessary timeframe. C. Absences will not fall into a pattern that is detrimental to program. *4. REQUIRED TRAININGS AND MEETINGS * A. Attend educational staff meetings. B. Attend required trainings and meetings. *5. PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS* A. Must meet all standards of employment presented in the Employee Handbook and contract. B. Meet all requirements necessary to ensure that credentials are current including submission of college transcripts each semester if not fully certified. C. Maintain positive, professional relationships with co-workers and use appropriate, approved resources to mitigate / resolve conflicts. D. Treat students and co-workers with respect. E. Utilize only approved and appropriate instructional / intervention strategies. F. Provide supervision / feedback as necessary to classroom co-workers. G. Maintain appropriate and approved contact with parents, guardians, residential care providers, mainstream teachers, and outside agency representatives. H. Intervene with potentially agitated / out-of-control students in a therapeutic and de-escalating manner. I. Participate in restraining of student or escort to the quiet room (when needed) in a safe and professional manner only when Pro-ACT certified. J. Follow through on tasks and assignments in a timely manner. K. Maintain appropriate boundaries with residents, students and staff. L. Be an effective team member, able to interact with other team members in a positive, professional manner, able to give and receive feedback. M. Comply with all facility and Employee Handbook requirements. Perform all duties in accordance with Employee Handbook expectations, policies, procedures, memorandums of change and information, and in compliance with state, local, and federal regulations. N. Always appear well-groomed and observes OGI’s dress code, wear identification badge at all times while on grounds, and maintain a professional appearance at all times. O. Comply with all facility safety policies, procedures and OSHA regulations. Do not participate in any competitive sports; report all injuries per policy. P. All other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
