QUALIFICATIONS: Michigan teaching certificate (SA endorsement - Cognitive Impairment) Successful experience working with cognitively impaired children at all levels or a multi-categorical disabilities classroom Certified and qualified to teach Middle School. Background in child development with a special emphasis on language, communication, cognitive development and functional skill development. Masters degree in Special Education preferred. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The teacher will accept full responsibility for the students and in addition, will provide service and consultation to other students who are suspected or have a disability. The teacher will maintain instructional records and monitor the progress of students. The teacher will receive and process referrals on students via the existing referral process. The teacher will participate in individual educational plan meetings (IEP) The teacher will provide instruction to support students' academic, social and functional living skill development. The teacher will provide materials, consultation, and other support to general education teachers, administration and other education personnel supporting students on caseload. The teacher will make written reports to supervisory staff, and general education teachers, as needed, concerning each student assigned. The teacher will have as an overall goal, the participation of students in general education through the various forms of support mentioned above to the maximum extent possible. The teacher may provide instruction and support in vocational and community based learning activities. The teacher will provide other services as directed by the Director of Student Services

I nitiate and participate in curriculum and development activities related to the teaching and learning expectations relative to the assigned position. R eflect thoughtfully on teaching practices and modify plans and strategies to improve instruction. D ialogue positively with colleagues to continue professional growth. B uild and maintain a positive rapport with students, staff and families. A ctively contribute to building and district school improvement efforts. C ollect and utilize student data and share with students and families to improve outcomes. U se a variety of well-researched strategies so students enjoy an engaging, positive, and effective culture for learning. D evelop and follow through on instructional plans, differentiate and modify to meet each student's specific needs. M aintain an accurate record of student attendance reports, classroom grades and all relevant/related professional duties. C ommunicate effectively with students, parents and colleagues regarding student expectations, achievement and behavior E valuate each pupil's performance, knowledge and skills in all courses taught. I nstruction in a manner which balances lecture, student information sharing, discovery and inquiry and whole.small group instruction.
