Your Role as a Special Education Teacher Building Substitute Classroom Coverage & Documentation – Maintain accurate notes on student participation, behaviors, and progress during classroom coverage. Team Collaboration & Communication – Coordinate with staff, support personnel, and administrators to ensure continuity of care and instruction. Behavior Management & Student Engagement – Maintain a structured and supportive classroom environment by using established behavior management techniques and fostering student engagement. Assessment & Progress Monitoring – Track student progress through evaluations, assessments, and behavioral data collection. Student Safety & Compliance – Adhere to school policies, IEP requirements, and confidentiality standards while ensuring student safety and supporting daily routines. Required Qualifications: Active PA Teaching Certification is required, such as a Private Academic Certificate or Level I/II PA Instructional Special Education Certification (K–12). All New Story Teachers must have their PA teaching license in place by August 1, 2025. Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
