POSITION: Special Education Teacher - Autism
SUPERVISOR: Building Principal
PRIMARY FUNCTION : To assume the responsibilities for instruction, classroom management, job duties, and professional involvement according to the School Code of Illinois, Board of Education Policies, and District contractual agreements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must possess the following qualifications: Applicant must hold a valid Illinois certification for the position for Madison County with applicable endorsement(s) Successful experience in the position being applied for is desirable Technology based applications for instruction District curriculum requirements relevant to the specific position Developmentally appropriate instructional practices and learning environments ESSENTIALS DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Plans effectively for instruction; including maintenance of written plans which are consistent with District curriculum guidelines, developmental needs of students and accountability requirements. Employs a variety of instructional strategies and techniques which take into account individual student differences (learning styles, pace, motivation, interests, etc.) as well as the need for achievement of specified objectives. Communicates the purpose of lessons and relates instructions to both long- and short-term educational objectives. For Primary Grade Teacher (K-2), demonstrates knowledge of primary student and his/her general needs as well a knowledge of specific curricular areas. For Intermediate Grade Teacher (3-5), demonstrates knowledge of the intermediate student and his/her general needs as well as knowledge of specific curricular areas. For Middle Grade Teacher (6-8), demonstrates a knowledge of the social, emotional, intellectual and physical characteristics of the middle school student. Communicates accurately and effectively with students, parents and other staff members. Assesses student progress formally and informally in an appropriate manner. Exhibits effective classroom management techniques which include: self-control, maintenance of an appropriate learning environment, fair and consistent treatment of students, maintenance of safety standards, tactful response to needs of students, etc. Encourages the development of students which equals self-esteem. Maintains accurate and timely records as required by law, Board policies and administrative guidelines. Follows building and District rules, procedures and policies. Demonstrates a willingness to participate collaboratively in building, professional and District-level committees. Is punctual in reporting for job assignments as well as faculty and parent meetings. Performs all duties specific to the position listed in the contractual agreement for classroom teacher, librarian, school social worker, counselor, school nurse, psychologist and speech/language clinician. Performs other reasonable duties as assigned during the normal work day/year or in cases of emergency.
