General McLane School District Posting of Anticipated or Current Vacancy 2025-2026 School Year Position: Social Studies Teacher (Long-Term Substitute) Location: General McLane High School Certification: Valid Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate for Social Studies 7-12 (required); Job Selection Expectations: Applications, resumes, letters of reference, and written samples will be reviewed for required certification; demonstrated related knowledge, skills, and abilities; and ability to communicate effectively. As candidates progress through the selection process, they may be asked to perform additional written exercises, complete panel interviews, and perform a sample lesson related to the subject area. Application Requirements: Applicants are expected to possess a valid and appropriate certificate for the vacant position at the time of application as well as all necessary clearances. Additional qualifications and experience will be considered and may be necessary or desirable for individual positions along with a demonstrated competency in writing and communication skills. Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Deep understanding of U.S. history, world history, civics/government, economics, and geography Familiarity with Pennsylvania Academic Standards for Social Studies and applicable graduation requirements Strong classroom management and student engagement techniques Ability to design and deliver rigorous, standards-aligned lessons using best practices in instruction Proficiency in integrating technology into instruction to enhance learning Skill in differentiating instruction to meet diverse student needs, including English learners and students with IEPs or 504 plans Knowledge of culturally responsive teaching practices and inclusive curriculum design Ability to use formative and summative assessments to inform instruction and support student growth Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and families to support student success Commitment to continuous professional growth and reflective practice Strong organizational and time management skills Ability to maintain a positive, respectful, and professional rapport with students Familiarity with trauma-informed and social-emotional learning strategies in the classroom Capacity to foster civic awareness, critical thinking, and historical inquiry among students Ability to sponsor or support extracurricular activities, such as clubs, student government, or academic competitions (preferred but not required) Anticipated Duration: Long-Term Substitute from around the end of September through the end of the semester (January 16, 2026) Internal Applicants: Please apply as an internal candidate through the district's hiring portal.
