POSITION:Secondary Mathematics Teacher LOCATION:Thompson Middle School REPORTS TO:Principal SCHOOL YEAR:2025/2026 JOB DESCRIPTION: To create flexible middle grade programs and an environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with all students; to motivate; to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further education, in accordance with each student's ability; and to establish good relationships with parents, other staff members and administration. EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE: Must hold one or more of the below valid RI Certifications - Secondary Grades Math Teacher, Grades 7-12 - Middle Grades Math Teacher Elementary Extension, Grades 5-8 - Middle Grades Math Teacher, Grades 5-8 Evidence of developing teaching strategies that will address the unique needs of each student; Ability to know and utilize technology in the teaching and learning process; Demonstrated ability to perform the responsibilities below as evidenced by course work, education experience, teaching, educational experience, and the interview process; Any such alternatives to the above qualifications as the committee may deem acceptable and appropriate. Successful completion of the Science of Reading Training RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaches courses in Mathematics, utilizing the School Department's curriculums and other appropriate learning activities; Develops lesson plans, and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student; Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction; Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom; Evaluates students' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports; Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students' progress and interpret the school program; Identifies students' needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems; Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers; Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities; Selects and requisitions books and instructional aides, maintains required inventory records; Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day; Administers group standardized tests in accordance with district testing program; Demonstrates an understanding of standards-based education and how it is implemented in the classroom; Participates in curriculum development programs as required; Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities; Performs such other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or designee at Thompson Middle School. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month position; appropriate salary/benefits in accordance with the Teachers' Contract. Evaluation in accordance with the process as established by the Rhode Island Department of Education for certified educators.
