Description
Menlo Park Academy is a small, trauma-informed alternative high school focused on providing credit recovery opportunities for students in grades 11-12. Teachers are encouraged to be flexible in their instruction and cultivate a classroom environment that inspires learning, creativity, and personal growth. The Science Teacher is responsible for instructing students in all MN secondary math standards - including intermediate algebra, geometry, advanced algebra, and potentially personal finance - and providing a well-rounded and comprehensive instructional program. As part of the teaching team, you will help students develop the skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to become life-long learners and work collaboratively with parents and other staff members to support their educational success.
This is a benefits-eligible, salaried, full-time, exempt position working 40 hours per week, 10 months of the year (mid-August through June). Hours are based on program needs but are typically Monday through Friday, between 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM with occasional evenings and weekends as required.
Responsibilities: Provide differentiated instructional content through lectures, labs, and interactive activities to ensure student mastery of content. Implement classroom activities that foster problem-solving and critical thinking. Develop engaging and informative lessons based on district and school goals and objectives that align with curriculum standards and cater to diverse learning styles. Evaluate student performance and present evaluations in a manner that fosters higher student achievement. Promote a learning environment that is welcoming, respectful, friendly, and academically challenging. Create and grade tests, quizzes, and assignments to evaluate student understanding and progress. Stay updated with the latest educational trends, mathematics news, and teaching methods through continuous learning and professional development. Provide academic support, tutoring, and guidance to help students succeed and address any learning challenges. Work with colleagues, parents, and administrators to support student learning and participate in agency-wide initiatives. Utilize computer and multimedia technology in instruction and administration as appropriate. Maintain accurate records, including but not limited to attendance, grades, assessments, and lesson plans. All agency employees must have the basic competency to work effectively in a mission-driven agency, such as mission orientation, communication, collaboration, adaptability, problem-solving, cultural competence, technological proficiency, ethical conduct whose clients and staff exhibit significant diversity with respect to race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, nationality, and religion. Education and Experience Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education-Math with current Minnesota teaching license. Classroom experience preferred. Relevant experience with at-risk youth and previous experience in an alternative school setting is a plus. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Commitment to the organization's mission Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities Strong communication skills for professional interaction with diverse individuals and organizations Self-motivated with a dedication to continuous improvement Proficient in classroom presentation and management Knowledge of core curriculum, including all secondary math standards for Minnesota Understanding of teaching and learning strategies to accommodate diverse student learning styles and abilities Familiarity with multicultural, gender, and disability fair curriculum concepts Proficiency in instructional technologies Effective oral and written communication skills Ability to work in a cooperative and collaborative learning environment Excellent organizational skills Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, parents, district staff, and community members from diverse backgrounds Licenses and Certifications: Valid MN Driver's License and proof of auto insurance. Dependable transportation is required. Current Minnesota teaching license
