DESCRIPTION Madison District Public Schools is seeking a full-time English Teacher at the secondary level for the 2025-2026 school year. The ideal candidate will have a passion for literature, writing, and communication, and will inspire students to think critically, express themselves effectively, and develop a lifelong appreciation for reading and learning. They will be committed to differentiating instruction, integrating technology, and creating a classroom environment that fosters creativity, collaboration, and respect.
QUALIFICATIONS Valid Michigan teaching certificate in English, BA Endorsement Demonstrated knowledge of Michigan Academic Standards for English Demonstrated ability to engage students in reading and writing across genres Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with students, parents, and staff Strong communication, technology, and organizational skills Competency in student management and supervision
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Plan, prepare, and deliver instruction aligned with Michigan Academic Standards for English Language Arts. Incorporate reading, writing, speaking, listening, and media literacy into lessons. Design engaging units and assessments that challenge students and promote higher-order thinking. Assess student progress through assignments, tests, and other evaluation methods. Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and parents. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student performance and attendance. Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and engagement. Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and parents to support student learning and development. Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with educational best practices. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor.
