Position Title Remote Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) K-12, New Mexico (Fully Remote) About the Role Provide specialized, individualized instruction to New Mexico students with visual impairmentsfrom functional vision and Braille literacy to assistive technology and independent living. Create and execute individualized education plans aligned with state and federal special education requirements, focusing on expanded core curriculum skills: Braille, orientation & mobility (O&M), assistive tech, and functional vision.
Virtual Instruction Deliver one-on-one or small-group lessons, covering Braille, assistive technology, functional vision instruction, academic content, mobility strategies, and independent living.
Assessment & Progress Monitoring Conduct functional vision and learning media assessments, regularly track student progress, and adjust instruction accordingly.
Collaboration & Consultation Work with general educators, specialists, administrators, and families to adapt materials, integrate students into general education, and support academic access. Offer parent training and resources.
Assistive Technology Integration Train students and caregivers in the use of screen readers, magnification tools, refreshable Braille displays, ZoomText, JAWS, and digital Braille tools.
Compliance & Documentation Maintain accurate documentation of services, progress, IEP compliance, and communications, ensuring alignment with state and federal regulations.
Professional Development Engage in ongoing training in best practices for VI education and remote instructional methodologies.
Qualifications Education & Certification Bachelors or Masters degree in Visual Impairment Education or Special Education with VI endorsement. Active New Mexico Blind and Visually Impaired (B?12) teaching license required.
Experience At least 2 years experience teaching visually impaired students, preferably with teletherapy or remote instruction.
Technical Proficiency Strong skills in Braille, functional vision assessment, and assistive tech platforms for remote delivery. Familiarity with Zoom, Teams, VR tools, digital braille, etc.
Communication & Organizational Skills Excellent verbal and written communication abilities for working remotely with students, parents, and school teams. Self directed, adaptable, and tech savvy.
Work Schedule & Location Fully remote position.
