Closing Date: Until Filled TITLE: READING SPECIALIST TEACHER (Grade 8)
Job Focus: To help reduce or eliminate reading difficulties that interfere with the individual student's ability to derive full benefit from the district's educational program.
Line of Supervision: Responsible to and evaluated by the building Principal, and the Title I coordinator.
Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Regularly meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated. 2. Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning practices operating within the limits of the resources provided by the district and under the guidelines of ESEA Title I. 3. Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor. 4. Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior, consistent with the physical limitations of the individual. 5. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and methods utilizing current technology and media to provide remedial reading services consistent with the limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved. 6. Strives to implement by instruction and action the District=s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives. 7. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. 8. Evaluates student progress on a regular basis. 9. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation, and ESEA Title I grant. 10. Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy. 11. Attends and participates in faculty meetings. 12. Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students. 13. Strives to establish and maintain cooperative relations with district personnel. 14. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence through participation in, but, not limited to workshops, college course work and seminars. 15. Attends and participates in parent meetings of Title I students throughout the year for the purpose of obtaining parent input into program activities, evaluation of program, and to provide activities that can be done between child and parent. 16. Guards the confidentiality of all information placed in charge of this office. Breach of this trust shall be grounds for dismissal.
17. Performs such other duties as assigned by the Principal, Director of Instructional Services, or Superintendent of Schools.
Minimum Qualification: 1. Holds valid Illinois Certificate from the Illinois State Board of Education. 2. Holds an earned Bachelors Degree with 18 hours in reading from an accredited college or university.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: School calendar year, 180 days. Salary and work year to be according to contractual agreement.
