Job Description
We have a Special Education Teacher opening in our Providence School on our English Station Campus for the 2025-2026 school year. The Special Education Teacher works efficiently as a servant-leader with a service-oriented attitude to accomplish the essential job results while directly overseeing and providing services to students with a primary diagnosis of Down syndrome.
Qualifications

Commitment to faithful attendance and support of a church whose beliefs are in agreement with the Statement of Faith for Christian Academy School System
Agreement and belief that The Bible is the final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind
The ideal candidate shall possess the following: A Bachelor's degree in Special Education: Moderate and Severe Disabilities (preferred)
A minimum of three years experience teaching in a self-contained or resource classroom setting
Knowledge and experience in writing individualized education plans
An ACSI Teacher certification and a state teaching certificate or be in the process of obtaining certification
Accountabilities / Responsibilities Exhibits evidence of personal and professional growth
Collaborates effectively with Principal, the Providence Director, teachers, therapist, and parents to support students
Fosters communication between parents, therapist, and teachers; encourages Matthew 18 principle
Communicates school policies and procedures about individualized education plans to therapist and parents
Attends general faculty meetings, department meetings, and professtional development, etc
Develops a Family Service Plan/FSP with parents, teachers, and therapist as appropriate for each student
Monitors student goals from the FSP and communicates with parents and therapist when needed
Prepares progress reports quarterly and reports to parents, teachers, Principal, and Director of Educational Resources
Meet with regular education teachers to determine collaboratively the basic curriculum expectations and adaptations to be made
Shares educationally relevant information from testing results with teachers, in a confidential manner and via a formal written process (FSP, quarterly reports, student profile sheet, etc.) within the first two-three weeks of school and as new information becomes available throughout the year
Supports classroom teachers by adapting classroom materials as needed as they seek to serve the needs of students with Down syndrome in the classroom
Creates and maintains a self-contained classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity level and interest of students
Establishes and maintains efficient classroom management procedures
Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior necessary for a positive learning environment
Shows written evidence of preparation and student growth/monitoring data
Guides the learning process toward the achievement of student goals using a variety of teaching methods and materials including, individual, small and large group instruction
Develops and maintains a schedule for all students, assistants, and self that allows students to attend the regular classroom during the day as appropriate with adequate support while balancing the time with instruction in the self-contained classroom
Provides direction to the assistants in teaching methods, adapting materials, behavior management and monitoring student progress towards goals
Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by the school
Utilize technology to gather data, work with students, create materials, and streamline information, etc
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or Director
Outcomes Specific and enhanced education program delivered to student and parent
Continued education assessment of students to enhance their learning needs
Monitor student goals
Provides support, training, and direction to Providence assistants that promote their growth and thereby impacting the growth of students and school effectiveness
Reporting Relationship
The Special Education Teacher is accountable to the Principal and The Providence Director.
