EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Posses a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate
Elementary school Teaching experience preferred
Project Lead the Way Teaching experience preferred
Demonstrated success working with historically underachieving students and closing achievement gap(s)
Be recognized as a collaborative instructional team member
Demonstrated proficiency with instructional techniques such as: Workshop teaching methods
Word Generation
Reading Apprenticeship
Project based learning including Project Lead The Way
Text-based discussions
Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP)
Instructional uses of assessment data
Differentiated teaching methods in all content areas
Integration of content area instruction
Have demonstrated skillfulness collecting and analyzing data for instructional purposes including report cards, NWEA, SRI, MEAP/Mi-STEP, etc.
Have daily experience implementing Developmental Designs techniques
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Under the direction of Principal, direct and implement the PLTW Launch Curriculum. Plan instructional resources and support functions of the STEAM/PLTW curriculum to enhance student learning and achievement; provide consultation and professional development activities to administrators, staff and faculty to enhance the educational effectiveness of students in the areas of science, technology, engineering, fine arts and math. Ensure that STEAM activities are responsive to student needs: implement the PLTW Launch curriculum with fidelity working with students on effective and safe use of technology, specifically as it relates to technology as a learning tool
Support students in developing a responsible, effective online presence through social media
Support fully a commitment to addressing the achievement gap for students of color, students living in poverty and English Learners through STEAM activities while increasing the achievement of all students
Establish and maintain liaisons with districts, universities, outside agencies, organizations, and other partners
Plan, design, develop, implement, coordinate and conduct training and professional development activities for faculty, staff and administrators in Project Based Learning, STEAM, and Project Lead The Way
Ensure that STEAM activities are responsive to educator needs: Make connections with outside schools and resources that might assist teachers in providing the best STEAM resources to support our students.
Seek out opportunities for administration, staff, parents and students to connect with schools around the globe for distance learning projects and discussions
Participate in the district STEAM initiatives and PLC
Communicate regularly with parents, business partners and community members outside normal classroom day by means of teacher developed website, email, phone calls, conferences, etc.
Promote PLTW programming in all facets of communication
Participate in flexible scheduling to collaborate with all departments
Regular and reliable attendance
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Knowledge or experience in Project Lead the Way
Skill in implementing effective professional development activities
Deep knowledge of principles, theories, standards, practices, strategies and procedures involved in project based learning and STEAM integration
Knowledge of curriculum standards and application in subject or instructional areas including science, technology, engineer, arts, and math
Good judgment, flexibility, creativity and sensitivity in response to changing situations and needs
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
Ability to effectively manage a large project with multiple partners
Ability to multi-task and work independently with little direction
Skill in communicating effectively both orally and in writing
Demonstrated ability to meet schedules and time lines
Advanced skill in preparing and presenting a variety of reports and materials
Demonstrate interdisciplinary thinking and instruction
Demonstrate open-ended critical thinking and problem solving
Demonstrate a willingness to use and develop technology tools that promote shared problem solving and inquiry
Demonstrate instructional understanding of higher order questioning skills; apply these skills to advance rigor and relevancy of instruction/learning as needed
