Lead Preschool Teacher
Part-Time Salary, $16-$18 equivalent, 32 hrs/week
Monday-Thursday, separate morning and afternoon classes. 16 student cap per class. Teachers aide in classroom.
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
To provide a safe and nurturing environment for children in Kids First Preschool that encourages their social, emotional, physical, intellectual, and spiritual development in a Christian environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Respect and observe children’s interests responding appropriately to the child’s needs, questions, and requests.
Acknowledge feelings with sensitivity and demonstrate appropriate expressions of emotions.
Practice positive discipline techniques according to Kids First Preschool Guidelines as well as Safe Gathering policy.
Foster positive self-concept by supporting individuality, independence, creative expression, and the ability to make choices.
Be attentive, flexible, and supportive of children and their families.
Respond to parents’ comments and concerns with sensitivity, interest, and respect.
Plan a daily schedule which provides a balance of activities.
Prepare and provide a variety of developmentally appropriate materials and activities that foster social skills and encourage children to think, problem solve, question, and experiment.
Participate in promotional activities to enhance the preschool’s image, enrollment, and scholarship fund.
Implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum and environment that reflects observations and assessments of individual children and goals jointly developed with parents.
Prepare weekly lesson plans according to themes; copy and submit lesson plans to the Preschool Director each week.
Provide documentation of children’s accomplishments through anecdotal notes, documentation panels, and/or portfolios.
Complete appropriate paperwork and maintain accurate attendance records.
Assist in planning and attend preschool/classroom events, staff meetings, and training sessions.
Model behaviors/methods for and assign duties to Preschool Teacher Aides.
Maintain professional attitude with parents, visitors, and other personnel while assuring confidentiality of client and other information.
Maintain compliance with all state regulations.
Assist with preparation, cleaning, organizing of both the classroom and the preschool facility at the beginning and end of the academic year.
Supports the evangelism strategy of the church by actively engaging in inviting students and their families to attend worship and participate in the ministry of First United Methodist Church.
Regular, dependable, and in-person attendance.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
Excellent organizational ability and proven verbal and written communications and human relations skills.
Ability to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide education appropriate to preschool age children.
Ability to comprehend and apply the principles of children’s growth and developmental needs.
Ability to conduct oneself in a Christian manner in performing the tasks of this position.
Ability to maintain a professional image at all times.
Skill in working with individuals to achieve a “teamwork” work environment.
ESSENTIAL EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
Graduation from a recognized college or university with a Bachelor’s or Associate Degree in the fields related to the care and education of preschool age children preferred; at least 3 years of verified experience.
Continuing Education or In-Service credits in appropriate field of 12 hours/year, First Aid/CPR.
Must pass Safe Gatherings Certificate and background check.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The incumbent in this position will be required to occasionally lift or move an average weight of 10-50 lbs. The position requires frequent standing (85% of the day), stooping, and bending to interact on a child’s level and the ability to physically/mentally react to unexpected circumstances, at times in an immediate nature.
