Description: Garfield Heights City Schools is seeking a passionate and dedicated Preschool Teacher to lead instruction and programming for our youngest learners. The ideal candidate will bring a strong knowledge of early childhood education, a commitment to differentiated instruction, and a deep understanding of child development. This teacher will design and deliver engaging lessons, foster a positive classroom environment, and collaborate closely with families and staff to ensure student success.
As a Preschool Teacher in our district, you will play a critical role in shaping a strong foundation for our students. You will also be expected to model the values and mission of Garfield Heights City Schools and actively contribute to the growth of our preschool program.

Essential Functions:
Ensure student safety at all times
Prepare and implement lesson plans that align with district and state standards
Evaluate student learning through regular assessments and maintain accurate records
Adapt instruction to meet individual student needs
Create a positive and developmentally appropriate classroom environment
Serve as the lead teacher for preschool programming
Collaborate with families through conferences, communication, and resource sharing
Participate in assessments (e.g., play-based, specialized testing) to support student development
Maintain and submit required documentation including lesson plans, data reports, and incident reports
Support student transitions and behavior management in alignment with PBIS
Incorporate technology and innovative teaching strategies into classroom instruction
Assist in writing and implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) or Multi-Factored Evaluations (MFEs) when applicable
Attend meetings, parent-teacher conferences, in-services, and professional development
Provide materials, supervision, and guidance for students, aides, tutors, and student teachers
Other Duties and Responsibilities: Participate on building, teacher-based, or district-level teams
Perform home visits when necessary
Serve on school committees or extracurricular activities
Supervise and mentor student teachers and classroom aides
Perform classroom duties including discipline, documentation, and reporting
Assist in textbook and resource selection
Collaborate with other preschool teachers to improve program quality
Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professional ethics
Write grants to support classroom and program needs
Act as a positive role model for students and families
Carry out additional duties as assigned by the Principal, Assistant Principal, Special Education Supervisor, or designee
About You: Valid Ohio teaching license (Early Childhood Education or Pre-K preferred)
Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field
Deep knowledge of child development and early learning best practices
Experience with differentiated instruction, data collection, and behavioral strategies
Ability to build strong relationships with families and collaborate with team members
Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills
High level of comfort with integrating technology into instruction
Willingness to participate in ongoing coaching and professional development
Experience working with students in urban or diverse school settings preferred
Must pass federal and state criminal background checks

The Garfield Heights City School prides itself on providing a rigorous and comprehensive pre-k through 12th-grade educational curriculum that clearly focuses on student success through college and career readiness. To that end, Garfield Heights High School offers a variety of Advanced Placement courses, including AP English, AP Government, AP American History, Honors Chemistry, Honors Calculus, Honors Physical Science, and more. While the District offers these high-level academic courses, the GHCS also proudly sends more than 225 students on an annual basis to the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center for those individuals deeply interested in learning a skilled profession or hands-on expertise in one of the trades. Middle School students have increasingly greater opportunities to prepare themselves for high school and parents are readily encouraged to be involved. Elementary School students in the GHCS also participate in such valuable literacy programs as LETRs and social/emotional initiatives as the Zones of Regulation. The GHCS places a great deal of emphasis at all levels of education on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (P.B.I.S.) and each school has won awards from the State of Ohio for encouraging and promoting positive behavior.
A wide variety of co-curricular offerings are available to students of all ages in the Garfield Heights City Schools as well. Such opportunities include more than 18 varsity sports, the district's show choir, Music Express, Marching Band, Theater, A 'Capella Choir, National Honor Society, Student Council, Glass Ceiling, Future Engineers, and more. These co-curricular offerings are award-winning on the state, regional and local levels. Students can expect success when they become involved in the various academic, co-curricular, and student leadership organizations in this District.
