Job Summary
Serving as the preschool teacher for the Indiana University Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences (SLHS) preschool, this position is a 12-month full-time classroom teacher within a unique language-based preschool program. The program focuses on creating a learning environment that emphasizes language development, literacy, and communication skills while meeting the needs of young children with speech, language, and/or hearing impairments, typically developing peers, and children learning English as a second language. The position will involve collaboration with SLHS faculty, students, and staff. Department-Specific Responsibilities Plans and implements preschool language-based classroom curriculum, considering cognitive, emotional, social, and physical development. Organizes the classroom and educational materials, including classroom budget management, to ensure a high-quality educational experience for all children. Collaborates with graduate and undergraduate speech-language pathology students to effectively implement communication intervention objectives in the classroom, thus enhancing their understanding of how to provide effective in-classroom services. Regularly meets with clinical faculty and graduate/undergraduate students as a member of an interdisciplinary team to support efficient and evidenced-based educational experiences Disseminates parent educational materials and maintains consistent communication with families about expectations, activities and objectives of the preschool. Holds parent conferences as warranted. Manages preschool enrollment waitlist, conducting screenings for admission, and ensuring completion of admission documentation. General Responsibilities Plans and implements developmentally appropriate activities for children enrolled. This includes physical needs, classroom activity participation, goal writing, lesson plans, preparation, etc. Assesses children's individual needs and tracks and records progress through parental meetings, developmental goal-setting, and routine assessment. Maintains the classroom in a safe, clean, and orderly environment, such as through maintaining licensing standards as set forth by the state and supervising children during free play, naps, learning, and outdoor time. Attends staff meetings and participates in ongoing professional development. Supervises and evaluates classroom assistants and aids. This includes observing and documenting job performance and potential disciplinary and performance issues. Performs other duties as assigned by childcare leaders.
Qualifications
EDUCATION Required Bachelor's degree in education or related field Preferred Bachelor's degree in early childhood education or special education WORK EXPERIENCE Preferred 5 years of early childhood or special education experience LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES Preferred Indiana teaching license Specific certifications related to early childhood education (e.g., Child Development Associate (CDA) credential) SKILLS Required Proficient written and verbal communication skills Maintains a high degree of professionalism Demonstrated time management and priority setting skills Demonstrates a high commitment to quality Possesses flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment Seeks to acquire knowledge in area of specialty Preferred Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills Understanding of child development and early childhood education principles including knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices Creativity, flexibility, patience, and a genuine love for working with young children
Working Conditions / Demands
This role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. This role frequently requires the ability to handle equipment. This role frequently requires the ability to remain stationary and ascend/descend ladders/stairs. This role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 40 pounds. The role requires the ability to detect items in close proximity as well as far away; discern between colors; detect objects in peripheral space of self; discern items in detail; and to have good depth perception. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary
$41,000 - $42,000 annualized wage paid monthly
