The Broadoaks School of Whittier College seeks a Preschool Lead Teacher who will lead and manage a high‑quality early childhood education program complementing the Constructivist Educational Approach.
Candidates must have a strong understanding of appropriate Early childhood development and developmentally appropriate practices, as well as Title 22. The Lead Teacher will coach and mentor preschool teachers and aides, support the Early Childhood Education Coordinator, and perform other duties as assigned. Hours: Monday–Friday, 40 hours/week

Program Development & Implementation Develop and implement developmentally appropriate preschool curriculum aligned with High/Scope and school‑endorsed methodology. Plan activities that address children’s physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development. Prepare materials, set up equipment, and ensure timely snacks. Maintain clean, safe, well‑maintained classrooms and facilities. Create and follow daily, weekly, and monthly activity schedules. Introduce math and literacy concepts through culturally appropriate programming. Follow all policies, maintain discipline with positive guidance, and be familiar with emergency procedures. Communicate at children’s eye level to build effective interactions. Classroom Supervision & Engagement Ensure constant visual supervision of all children. Provide enriching experiences through songs, stories, games, and structured play. Comfort children, establish routines, and implement positive discipline. Observe and document children's progress and integrate children with special needs respectfully and inclusively. Participate and coach children in classroom activities directly. Coaching, Mentoring & Staff Leadership Act as a coach and mentor to teaching staff and aides, including assisting in instruction, classroom management, and lesson delivery. Provide ongoing feedback, modeling best practices, and support continuous professional growth. Support the Early Childhood Education Coordinator in staff development, training, and evaluation. Supervise volunteers, practicum students, college work‑study, and support staff as assigned. Parent & Community Communication Maintain open lines of communication with parents regarding child development, behavior, and routine updates. Address concerns proactively and refer to professionals where appropriate. Support literacy initiatives, family engagement, and community outreach. Administrative Responsibilities & Collaboration Keep accurate, confidential records of student files, attendance, progress, and program documentation. Communicate and enforce school policies and procedures consistently. Participate in staff meetings, planning conferences, and collaborative initiatives with college faculty and the Early Childhood Education Coordinator. Other Duties as Assigned Assist with special events, support school functions, provide coverage in classrooms, or support other preschool sites as required. Position Specifications & Requirements
Minimum 12 post‑secondary semester units (or equivalent quarter units) in Early Childhood Education or Child Development from an accredited institution; Bachelor’s degree in Child Development or related field preferred. Hold a valid Site Director Permit or equivalent — such permit equivalency is mandatory for the Lead Teacher role. Option 1 Complete a baccalaureate degree or higher. Complete six additional semester units of course work in administration and supervision of child care and development programs. These units must be comprised of two courses: one introductory course and one advanced course, or two courses of different topical content. Complete two additional semester units in adult supervision coursework. Verify one year of site supervisor experience. This experience must be verified by submitting an original letter from the employer on official letterhead. Option 2 Obtain a valid Administrative Services Credential authorizing service in California public schools. Complete 12 semester units in early childhood education or child development coursework. Complete three semester units or four quarter units in supervised field experience in an early childhood education setting. Option 3 Complete a master’s degree or higher in early childhood education, child/human development, or a closely related field. At least six months of experience in a licensed child care center or comparable group program; prior supervisory experience preferred. Active adult and pediatric CPR and First Aid certification. Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and support other teaching staff. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with parents, children, college students, school staff, and faculty.
