Location: Pacific Beach, San Diego

Position Type: 25-40 hours per week

Salary: $20-$24 per hour (Depending on Experience)

Position Overview

We are currently seeking a compassionate and experienced Classroom Assistant Teacher (paraprofessional/SCIA) to join our team. The ideal candidate will have prior experience working in special education and a genuine passion for supporting young children's development. As an Assistant Teacher (paraprofessional/SCIA), you will work closely with our dedicated teaching staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the lead teacher in implementing specialized learning plans for students with additional support needs.
  • Provide one-on-one support and small group instruction to students, as directed by the teacher.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment where all children feel valued and respected.
  • Assist with classroom management and student support strategies.
  • Support students with activities of daily living, including toileting, feeding, and personal hygiene.
  • Collaborate with the teaching team to modify curriculum materials and activities to meet the diverse needs of all students.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and caregivers to provide updates on student progress and support continuity between home and school.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities as required.
  • Support the sanitation and organization of the classroom by supporting with cleaning, sanitizing, and organization.

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working in special education or with children with additional support needs is required.
  • Experience working with children under the age of 6 is required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, or related field preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with young children.
  • Ability to follow directions and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Willingness to learn and implement new strategies and techniques to support student learning and development.
  • Working use of ASL preferred
  • Bilingual (Spanish) a plus!

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to kneel, bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to engage in physical activities with children, including playing, running, and climbing.
