POSITION SUMMARY:

The Youth Force Part-Time Teacher reports directly to the Youth Force Supervisor. This role is to provide academic instruction to Eagles Nest Charter Academy middle school students on a one on one and in small groups sessions to prepare, advance, and/or remediate students in specific academic areas to assist the students in meeting their academic objectives. The Part-Time Teacher will also provide academic advocacy as needed.


RESPONSIBILITIES: (Duties include but are not limited to)

  • Providing high quality homework assistance, in a structured setting with appropriate materials and space with limited distractions.
  • Providing instruction in general study skills critical to all academic subjects such as time management, how to use reference materials, note-taking, and general test preparation skills.
  • Utilizing motivational strategies to encourage students to complete their homework, e.g., reward/incentive systems. Additionally, Part-Time Teacher shall develop open lines of communication with school personnel to help track student progress, align instructional activities, and connect students with necessary educational resources, including reasonable accommodations for ESE students.
  • Providing hands-on and project-based learning activities to engage youth and promote higher level learning skills.
  • Assessing youth that are experiencing difficulty in a particular subject area, using report cards, Pinnacle, FSA scores, IEPs, and other academic information.
  • Implementing creative and engaging teaching strategies that address the needs of the learners. • Reviews class assignments, content, or standards; discusses content with student; and reteaches when needed.
  • Creating extra practice or training materials and aids as needed.
  • Assesses student’s progress and achievement throughout tutoring sessions.
  • Maintaining confidentiality as it relates to the youth’s academic records.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS, REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Minimum 2 years working with youth.
  • Associate’s degree Required; Current, Past or Temporary State of Florida Teaching Certificate Required; Bachelor’s in education or related field experience preferred
  • An understanding of at-risk youth and the education system
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a proven ability to communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents, and educators.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Thorough understanding of multiple effective methods of instruction
  • Thorough understanding and knowledge of subjects and skills being taught.
  • Ability to encourage, positively reinforce, and provide constructive feedback to students to build confidence.
  • Must maintain confidentiality, moral codes of conduct and professionalism at all times.
  • Ability to work 2 hours daily, 3 times a week (Monday-Wednesday), between the hours of 3:30pm and 5:30pm, with an additional 1 hour of paid planning time, for a total of 7 hours per week.
