Employment Terms: Although this is not a contracted position, the candidate is expected to commit to teaching the entire school year. Hourly rate of $45 An average of 3 to 3.5 hours per working day, not to exceed 550 hours within the school year, days to be determined by the building principal. FLSA: Exempt
Position Overview:
The Part-Time Content Area Certified Teacher at the Alternative School is responsible for providing targeted, differentiated instruction to support students working on credit recovery and academic skill development within their assigned subject area. This position plays a vital role in helping students close learning gaps, master core content, and meet graduation requirements in a non-traditional learning environment.
Working in collaboration with alternative education staff, this teacher will develop and deliver individualized learning plans, monitor student progress, and provide both academic and social-emotional support to help students re-engage with their education. The ideal candidate will be flexible, student-centered, and skilled in using a variety of instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of learners.
Qualifications: Valid Missouri Teacher Certificate Bachelor's degree in education Certification in the content area is preferred Excellent oral and written communication skills Skills in human relations, leadership, and conflict management Creativity, flexibility, and a passion for teaching and learning Knowledgeable of teaching techniques that meet the diverse needs of students Experience with formative assessments, cooperative learning techniques, and data analysis Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Plan and implement engaging lessons that align with district, state, and national curriculum standards. Teach core subjects, such as math, ELA, science, and social studies, to close instructional gaps and assist with credit recovery. Integrate technology and hands-on activities to enhance student learning and engagement. Adapt instructional strategies to meet the needs of students with varying learning styles and abilities. Regularly assess student progress through formative and summative assessments and adjust instruction accordingly. Promote positive behaviors and enforce school policies in a consistent and fair manner. Implement effective classroom management techniques to ensure a safe and productive learning space. Create a welcoming and engaging physical space that supports and celebrates learning and fosters a sense of pride. Provide additional support and accommodations for students with special needs or English Language Learners (ELL). Collaborate and maintain open and effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues. Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading. and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws. Ensure confidentiality of sensitive student information. Physical Requirements/Environmental Factors: Ability to work in a climate-controlled building, as well as in inclement weather. Ability to stand, walk, and move around for long periods of time. Ability to see and read, with or without vision aids, a computer screen and printed matter, and to distinguish colors. Sufficient hearing to understand speech at normal room levels, and to hear and understand speech on the telephone. Manual dexterity to operate a telephone and enter data into a computer using both hands. Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversation, on the telephone, and addressing groups. Ability to exert up to 30 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Ability to lift, bend, stoop, pull, grasp, and carry a variety of objects of different shapes and sizes. Able to perform other duties assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
