JOB DESCRIPTION:
Teach instrumental music, grades 5-6
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Organize, rehearse and prepare students for string activities which include the following: seasonal concerts, District solo/ensemble contest, Regional and All-State tryouts, District "String Fling" and participation in UIL where appropriate.
- Recruits and holds a sufficient number of students to sustain a standard and balanced instrumentation for the succeeding string instrumental program.
- Collaborates with principal and staff to establish a workable class schedule which insofar as possible accommodates the needs of each building.
- In addition to the established district method, selects and uses planned sequences of instruction for the development of string technique and music reading.
- Maintains and submits upon request accurate computer-generated records on enrollment, attendance, instrumentation and inventory.
- Demonstrates correct techniques for assembly, care and maintenance of student instruments.
- Communicates with parents regularly to encourage and promote student progress, regular practice, attendance and any needed information regarding the playing condition of the student's string instrument.
- Conducts rehearsals and performances demonstrating understanding of differences in style among various types of music.
- Presents performances of high musical quality in which groups are musically prepared, well-disciplined and make a good appearance.
- Selects and requisitions required music, instruments, equipment, and supplies within budgetary constraints.
- Participates cooperatively on school and district-wide activities.
- Works with the string specialist and other string teachers to develop, refine, implement, and evaluate the curriculum so that orchestra activities are related to, and support, the over all direction of the CISD.
- Pursues and participates in professional development activities; disseminates ideas and information to other professionals.
- Attends to daily teaching and related activities on a consistent and timely basis.
- Regular attendance.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned.
ASSIGNMENTS TO VIRTUAL INSTRUCTION:
- Seamlessly integrate District-approved online learning platforms and required software into the planning, delivery, and support of virtual instruction.
- Plan, prepare, implement, and evaluate lessons and activities during the standard work hours of the campus at which the teacher is assigned, as well as prolonged or irregular hours.
- Be able to communicate with students, parents, and campus and District personnel during the standard work hours of the campus at which the teacher is assigned, as well as prolonged or irregular hours.
- Adhere to all professional responsibilities and deadlines including professional communication and responsiveness.
- Be flexible, responsive, and positive with students, parents, and staff.
- Effectively translate CISD Best Practices into the virtual instructional setting.
- Regularly attend and apply District-approved professional development in the most up-to-date practices associated with virtual instruction.
- Accurately and timely obtain and report required student data, including attendance, grades, etc.
- Dress professionally as you would if you were offering instruction to students in a traditional, in-person setting.
- Teach and interact with students from a quiet space, free from distraction, where appropriate confidentiality rules can be followed.
- Create a virtual classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Provide small group and tutoring opportunities for students who are experiencing difficulty in their learning.
- Support any extracurricular activities for which you are responsible according to District guidelines.
- Attend all required campus and District meetings.
- Private teaching and demonstrated performance
Education/Certification:
- Bachelors of Music Education, from an accredited University.
- First year teachers should have student teacher experienced at all levels
- Music Certification - Texas Certificate for K-12
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Applicant should have outstanding playing and teaching skills, some keyboard skills are necessary
- Applicants for secondary level positions should have experience and working knowledge of the symphonic literature.
- Working knowledge of full orchestra instrumentation
- Perform on primary instrument to illustrate and demonstrate correct techniques, corrective measures, and musical expressiveness
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Occasional prolonged and/or irregular hours. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
