Gig Harbor Academy has a 0.4 FTE (2 days a week) Music Specialist Teacher position open, starting in August 2025. This is an exciting opportunity for a teacher who is committed to an inquiry-based approach in a student-centered learning environment. This role will join our inclusive school community of 30+ teachers and administrators that serve our school of 170 students from Preschool through 5th Grade on a 10-acre wooded campus in rural Gig Harbor. Qualified candidates will be invited to the school for a tour and interview.
*Primary Responsibilities *
· Teach developmentally appropriate Early Childhood and Elementary Music classes.
· Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
· Provide appropriate student feedback on work.
· Engage students in school-wide performances, as well as possible performances outside of school.
· Collaborate with colleagues, students, parents and administrators as appropriate.
· Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.
· Observe and evaluate students’ performance and development.
· Create cross disciplinary learning activities when appropriate.
· Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
· Differentiate learning in order to meet each child’s learning needs.
· Liaise and collaborate with grade level teachers.
· Integrate suitable technology in learning.
*Other functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following:*
· Encouraging parents to be partners in the education of their child by establishing open lines of communication.
· Participate in appropriate professional development activities.
· Not required but strongly encouraged, involvement in the After-School Enrichment program.
· Available to work extended hours as contractually stated.
*Duties Specific to Music Specialist*
· Produce one music concert per school year in the Spring
· Maintain adequate student progress records, assessments.
Specialist Teachers must have a minimum of two years of experience teaching at this age level. A teaching certificate is desired but not required for Specialist positions.
