Visual Arts Teacher Our Mission The American Dream Charter School serves grades 6-12 in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx, targeting English language learners and immigrant students. The mission of the American Dream School is to develop academic excellence in both Spanish and English, preparing students to excel in college and become leaders in their communities. Summary of Role The American Dream High School is seeking a bilingual (Spanish/English) motivated, and engaging teacher who is committed to serving English Language Learners and cultivating bilingualism and biliteracy. The ideal candidate has a passion for experimenting, exploring and investigating with students. This candidate will be able to create a curriculum based on interdisciplinary goals and objectives, combining Science, Math and Literacy common core standards. This class is also taught in both Spanish and English. Responsibilities Classroom Preparation Discuss assigned duties with teachers for planning, preparation and development of teaching aids Prepare lesson materials, including technological equipment and bulletin boards Implementing curriculum Distribute materials and assist in other time management/organizational duties Type, file, and duplicate materials Teaching Responsibilities Tutor and assist children individually or in small groups Assist in the distribution, collection and grading of tests and homework assignments Observe students' performance, and record relevant data to assess progress Participate in teacher-parent conferences regarding students’ progress or problems Provide extra assistance to students with special needs including physical help Attend and participate in staff meetings Create meaningful project units and assessments that will help drive instruction Lead arts technique classes Teach and demonstrate sound technical and artistic principles. Classroom Management Responsibilities Supervise and manage students in all spaces, upholding ADS core values, rules and policies Instruct, maintain, and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and material Maintain accurate records and create reports Additional Responsibilities Assist with DRA testing Assist with breakfast/lunch duties Perform other assigned duties Following a co-teaching model Collaborate with other teachers to create a cross curriculum Create and maintain bulletin boards to showcase student work Coordinate and execute a school wide science fair Community Outreach Position Requirements Candidates must be able to provide proof of fully vaccinated (COVID-19). Bilingual Spanish/English; New York State Certified Strong organizational skills; Maintain confidentiality and meets deadlines, complete assignments with consistent accuracy; Tech-savvy; familiarity and experience with Microsoft Office, Gmail, Google docs/drive; Effective verbal, writing and listening skills.
