Middle School Science Teacher

General Description Quincy Public Schools seeks a dynamic, student-centered educator to plan, teach, and evaluate engaging science units aligned with the 2016 Massachusetts Science, Technology, and Engineering Curriculum Frameworks. The successful candidate will inspire middle school learners across Earth & Space Science, Life Science, and Physical Science domains, helping to prepare students for future academic and career pathways. This role requires a collaborative educator who is responsive to the unique developmental needs of middle school students and committed to supporting the school community as a whole. The ability to differentiate instruction for a range of learners, including advanced students, is essential. Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Plan, organize, and implement high-quality science instruction aligned with state standards and district goals. 2. Establish and maintain a classroom environment that supports active learning and student engagement. 3. Design and deliver lessons using varied instructional strategies, including demonstration, hands-on experiments, project-based learning, and digital tools. 4. Integrate science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) content to promote interdisciplinary learning. 5. Provide effective instruction in the core content areas: Earth and Space Science, Life Science, and Physical Science. 6. Assess students' academic progress and social development; maintain accurate and timely records and generate progress reports. 7. Implement accommodations and modifications to support the success of all learners, including those with special education needs and English learners. 8. Fulfill professional obligations including attendance, supervision duties, communication with families, and participation in staff, department, and team meetings. 9. Engage in meaningful, ongoing professional development aligned with school and district priorities. 10. Participate in the Quincy Public Schools Induction and Mentor Program, which begins prior to the school year and continues throughout the academic year, including activities beyond the regular school day. 11. Adhere to the Massachusetts Educator Evaluation System and demonstrate reflective, data-informed instructional practices. 12. Perform other duties as assigned by the school principal, Director of Curriculum and/or the Superintendent of Schools. Qualifications * Bachelor's Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or a related field (Master's preferred). * Valid MA DESE General Science (Grades 5-8) teaching license. * Demonstrated knowledge and implementation of the current MA Science and Technology/Engineering Frameworks. * Familiarity with Science MCAS structure and content. * Proficient in the use of educational technology. * Successful experience teaching at the middle school level; student teaching or comparable fieldwork accepted. * Strong interdisciplinary knowledge of STEM and the ability to make real-world connections in instruction. * Evidence of designing lessons, assessments, or projects that promote inquiry and student ownership of learning. * Ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and the broader school community.
