This position offers a unique opportunity to educate high school students in mathematics while supporting the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. The assignment is a full-time, school-year contract based in Philadelphia, PA.
Responsibilities:
Teach high school math courses, primarily Algebra and Personal Finance, to students in grades 9-12
Support approximately 55 students across four different classes, adapting lessons to meet the needs of learners with a range of reading levels (1st-4th grade)
Collaborate with educational teams to provide accessible instruction for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students
Utilize ASL in classroom instruction, or coordinate with interpreters if ASL fluency is developing
Foster an inclusive and supportive classroom environment tailored for students with special needs
Qualifications:
Strong background in teaching secondary-level mathematics (Grades 9-12)
Proficiency in American Sign Language preferred; candidates without ASL may be considered for part-time roles with interpreter support
Experience working with Deaf or Hard of Hearing students highly desirable
Previous experience with special education or students with special needs is advantageous
Patience, flexibility, and commitment to differentiated instruction for diverse learners
