We are seeking a dynamic, innovative, and student-centered Math, Engineering, Design, and Technology Teache r to join our high school team. The ideal candidate is passionate about hands-on, project-based learning and will empower students to explore real-world applications of engineering, design, robotics, game development, and entrepreneurship. This position involves teaching a unique set of cutting-edge courses designed to prepare students for college and career pathways in STEM, digital media, and business.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Required:
Valid Michigan Secondary Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement in Mathematics (EX).
Demonstrated experience or coursework in CAD, 3D printing, robotics, or engineering education.
Commitment to student engagement, inclusion, and hands-on learning.
Willingness to collaborate with industry partners and incorporate authentic learning opportunities.
Knowledge of skills and abilities related to diversity and cultural competence.
Knowledge of own competence in the area of diversity and how this influences own behavior and a desire to learn about others identities.
Preferred: Valid Michigan Secondary Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsements in Industrial Technology, Engineering, or related fields.
Experience using Onshape, Glowforge, Astroprint, Sphero RVR+, or similar tools.
Background in computer programming, game development, or marketing.
Experience working with diverse learners in a project-based learning environment.
Ability to advise students in competitions or STEM-related extracurriculars
Successful experience with project-based learning, Restorative Practices and Capturing Kids' Hearts.
Knowledge of standards-based, proficiency-based instructional practices.
COURSES TAUGHT:
Pre-Calculus This course integrates the background students must have to be successful in calculus (advanced work with functions and trigonometry, and introduction to limits and other calculus ideas), with the discrete mathematics (number systems, combinations, recursion, graphs) helpful in computer science. Mathematical thinking, including specific attention to formal logic and proof, is a theme throughout.
Aerospace Design
Students explore flight principles by designing, building, and testing remote-controlled aircraft, including quadcopters and airplanes. The course emphasizes CAD modeling in Onshape and fabrication using Glowforge laser cutters and 3D printers. Industry partnerships with aerospace engineers, local law enforcement, and RC clubs provide authentic learning experiences.
Brand Lab Students explore branding, design, and digital marketing by creating and selling custom merchandise. They use tools such as laser cutters, vinyl cutters, and heat presses, while learning about social media marketing, consumer psychology, and entrepreneurship. Guest speakers and a field trip round out this real-world course.
CAD Foundations This foundational course introduces CAD modeling using Onshape, along with 3D printing and laser cutting techniques. Students complete multiple design projects, culminating in an independent capstone fabrication project. No prior experience is required.
Game Design Students learn the fundamentals of video game development, including coding, animation, sound, and interactive storytelling. By semester's end, students will have created a complete 2D game using professional tools and developed a digital portfolio. Ideal for aspiring developers, artists, and game designers.
Mechanical Design
Building on CAD skills, this course focuses on real-world mechanical design, including assistive technology. Students prototype solutions inspired by Makers Making Change and collaborate with professional designers from a local business gaining experience in user-centered engineering.
Robotics Using the Sphero RVR+ platform, students learn robotics programming (block-based and text-based), automation, and real-world applications in industry. Projects include autonomous delivery systems and AI-based navigation challenges, culminating in a capstone robotics project.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Prepare course objectives and outlines for course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state and school.
Establish and enforce classroom management procedures consistent with building and district protocol.
Observe and evaluate student performance, behavior, social development, and physical health and report to parents as needed and required.
Prepare materials and classroom for class activities.
Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question and investigate.
Use a variety of media and methods in order to motivate students and best utilize available time for instruction.
Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects and communicate those objectives to the students.
Assign and grade classwork and homework, adhering to building and district protocols.
Prepare, administer and grade tests and assignments to evaluate students' progress.
Collaborate with other professional staff to enhance instruction and adapt and modify curriculum in order to meet individual student needs.
Participate in the development and revision of goals and performance objectives for students, course content and learning activities, evaluate procedures and instructional materials.
Keep attendance and grade records as required by the district.
