Summary of Position
AoA is seeking a middle school music teacher for a long-term substitute position starting in Mid November 2025. This position includes teaching 3 sections of Band and 2 sections of Orchestra at both beginning and intermediate levels.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Teach 5 sections of band/orchestra to 6th-8th graders
Serve as an advisor to group of students and supervise Tutorial periods with those students
Qualifications
Clear Single Subject California Teaching Credential (preferred), Multi-Subject California Teaching Credential, or working towards a Preliminary California Teaching Credential
Passing score of California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST) if no credential
Bachelor's Degree
Must pass a criminal background check and TB test clearance
Secondary classroom experience and strong classroom management
Skills & Requirements
Experience teaching band/orchestra, preferably at the secondary level.
Be committed to supporting students with high needs and believe that all students can be successful at high levels and that a students academic success should not be determined by their race or ethnicity, socio-economic status, gender, sexual preference, etc.
Have a student-focused lens and continually seek to build strong relationships with students and their families. Utilize restorative practices with students.
Value community and collaboration with other teachers, and supporting staff members
Be a successful teacher strong in content knowledge, culturally responsive practices, skilled at curriculum development. Experience with inquiry- or project-based learning is a plus.
Reflect deeply and often about how to grow and develop instructional practices in order to impact student learning. Be open to coaching and feedback to improve practice.
